I don’t think anyone is debating that he’s worth a try, especially in this org. But you have to be able to separate that blanket statement when evaluating not only that acquisition, but other similar acquisitions around the league. The Luzardo comparison is extremely lazy IMO. Luzardo had stints of success, and even had shown flashes of dominance throughout his career. Weathers has been bad at every stop of his professional career. I’ll stop now, root for this team over the next few weeks and see what they can do

Lifetime 5.09 ERA in the minors with an insane 1.531 WHIP. His career K/9 in the minors is only 8.1 (and only 6.5 in the majors), so his 2022 stint in Triple-A where he had an 11.5 K/9 seems like a bit of an anomaly. I'm really trying to see the best in Weathers, but I'm just not seeing it right now. Hopefully he proves me wrong but he currently makes Ed Cabrera look like a stud. Maybe he becomes a reliever at some point? Maybe. I’m not a huge fan of his either tbh, I’ve seen him pitch. But it’s a 23-year old lefty who used to be a top prospect, those don’t exactly grow on trees either. Worst case scenario, he’s more depth that can provide innings. Hopefully he figures it out and becomes more than that though.
