  1. Just look at the schedule - cake anyone? Tough teams (& current games over .500) are COL 8, STL 8, and PHI 13 (two series). Bottom feeders are NYM (8) thrice, SD (19), WAS (32) twice, and CIN (15). The rest are middling teams - HOU 2 & ATL 4. Not that records are perfect predictors, but I like our schedule - on a per game basis, the teams we face the rest of the year are currently a whopping 214 games under .500 - of course, WAS @ (32)x6games makes up 192 of those.
  2. So, Fredi gets tossed for riding the ump from the bench - that's OK. What's not OK is that he put his tail between his legs and scurried to the clubhouse. It was the perfect opportunity to go out on the field and unload on the ump - all the greats do/did it - Piniella, Cox, Martin, Weaver, et al. That's just one way to show your team that you actually give a s--t - do something outrageous that may serve to inspire! Kick some dirt, dammit.
  3. I say keep Cody until Maybin's "magic date". About 3-4 more weeks. Then do a waiver deal < 8/31.
  4. Given how long it took him to perform up to expectations, does AGon = JHerm ?
  5. I watched Gaby for 3 years at UM. His glove is not terrible, but he does have a scatter arm. He could always hit - 3 called him one of the top prospects he ever recruited.
  6. I know I can exchange my ticket plus $1 for a future game. Does anyone know the procedure for the $10 parking fee? Has anyone had any luck getting a parking pass for a future game? If so, who did you talk to?
  7. In today's game, roster turnover is a constant challenge. Except for the mega-markets, players change a lot. Without doing the research, I'd venture to say that only 5% or so of current MLB players were on the same roster 5 years ago. That's less than 2 players per team. Get used to it & learn the Marlins model of developing talent and dealing it when the time is right.
  8. As the Marlins enter the second half, we all know the Phillies are coming to town for an important 4 game set. In case you haven't heard, the "Hanley Rameriz / Dan Uggla Equipmant Drive" happens on Friday, July 17. So, bring all your used (and new) equipment for donation - they will be well-used by deserving kids who cannot afford new balls/bats/gloves/caps/etc... Last year, every donator got a free autographed HR or DU picture card - I think the same will apply this year. Donation boxes will be outside the gates at LandShark on Friday, so bring all the stuff you'd like to give to a good cause.
  9. 1967 - Music, politics, social change - 1967 had it all!
  10. Those of us stuck at work would sure appreciate a little pbp Nothing fancy - just the basics - Thx -
  11. I have 2 infield box tix (Sec 156) for tomorrow night - I got them from someone who has a partial season ticket. Does anyone know if I can upgrade to Club C? If so, how do I do it, and what will it run me? Please, only reply if you have actually done this - no guesses or "I think....."s. Thx -
  12. What's it look like at LandShark? Am driving from Coral Gables soon - hope it's not raining (or threatening). Thanks.
  13. The ever-present question - What's Street's contract status?
  14. They gave out two different 03 rings. One was F on black (good). The other F on orange (not so much).
  15. I'm sure most of you saw HRs interview with Craig yesterday on the pre-game. WOW - was he in a bad mood. Not one smile from a guy living the MLB life. Craig "saved" the interview by commenting afterwards that HR lightened up later (off camera of course). Yes, the language thing factors in, but the body language tells a tale of it's own. I think we've really got to watch his attitude - we cannot afford another Cabrera-type on this team. Fredi is not strong enough to deal with it.
  16. The tickets are spoken for - thanks.
  17. I've been watching baseball for a long time, and I can tell you that years ago, when a sac bunt was called for, the pitcher would basically just serve up a fat pitch and the batter (usually the opposing pitcher) would drop the bunt successfully 90% of the time, and the game would move on. Today, it's a whole different story. For one thing, batters do not really square around to bunt (the ideal technique). They are taught to keep their feet basically in place and kind of jab at the ball. This is to keep the bunter from taking a fastball off their wrist/forearm and missing time (especially pitchers). On top of that, opposing pitchers are no longer serving up an easily buntable pitch. They throw high & tight to throw the bunter off kilter, or breaking balls on the outside edge, with good reason and motive. Why settle for an sac / easy out when you can get a K and no advance? So, the apparent death of the sacrifice bunt is a combination of lack of fundamentals (see Cody), alongside baseball strategy by both the batter and the defense.
  18. I'd imagine he will be picky as to where he goes. If I was him, I'd want a decent shot at another ring - Not sure FLA would be attractive in that regard.
  19. Update - the seats are in Sec 442, Row 1, Seats 4 & 5.
  20. These are 2 "hard-copy" tix for the Friday game 6/19. They are upper deck B, first base side, row 3 or 4. I paid face value $25 each, will sell the pair for $45. Transfer in person - cash only. Can meet at this Sat game (6/6), or in person if you live near Pinecrast / Palmetto Bay. PM if interested - I can get the exact seat section & row later today.
  21. I got John Henry's seats once, back in 2000 - best ever for me. He was Founders, Row One, first base side, just beyond the netting. I preferred them to Batters Box, which all are blocked by the netting.
  22. I'm trying to locate one for this year. I asked the team, but they don't have any more left. PM me if we can work out a deal - I'd be glad to trade any prior year (including 2003 or 2004 with WS trophy on it) that I have an extra of for the 2009. Thanks.
  23. I met Mike Lowell at Kendall Toyota in 99 or 00. He was signing pictures for customers, and most were personally addressed to the kids of customers. He asked me my kids name, so I told him (since I have no kids) my dog is my kid - so he signs the picture "Keep on barking!". I really hope Mike retires in Miami and becomes a Dawson/Perez type. I also met Cal Ripkin Jr once at an event. At the time, he was involved in a farm club in Aberdeen, and he appreciated that I knew about that. He said that he wished the quality of the baseball was as good as the attendance. He posed for a pic with me & signed a ball - nice guy. One more - I actually met Jay Randolph. Although he was a meh announcer, he really made me feel important as we chatted. Some guys just know how to treat people - an unforgettable experience. Others I've bumped into - Len Kasper, Cro, Niner, THut, JP, Hawk, (Luis Aparicio!), TaniP, Bolsey, TonyTaylor, DTrain, Anibal, Mota, Pudge, Looie, Trader Jack, and on and on. All were very friendly.
