  1. [ he could always hit a little - like ankiel.......... wonder if he could play a little 1B for someone (probably not us)?
  2. Donde esta Stephie (mi amor)?
  3. I like to make note of guys who played in 4 different decades. For example, any player who made a ML appearance in 1989 and before, played in the 90s & 00s, and will make an appearance in 2010 would qualify. Historically, about 25 players have turned the trick. For example Nolan Ryan, Ted Williams, Tim Raines, and Rickey Henderson. (Minnie Minoso played in 5 decades, due to a PH appearance in 1980 at age 54.) If Gary Shefield gets in a ML game this year, he qualifies. Jamie Moyer too. Any others that played in 80s 90s 00s & (probably) 10s?
  4. Isn't Shef still out there somewhere?
  5. So would you be equally offended if it were an old testament verse - Say Psalm 23?
  6. Has anyone ever made the team or at least a minor league team from these open tryouts? A friend of mine went once - unless The FO knows your background, and knows you're coming, you have zero shot. Zero. That is all.
  7. I like thinking about who on our championship teams used steroids. Am I the only one? It's a game I play with friends. Kevin Millar - no doubt.
  8. I assume he'd have taken Gload's roll. We payed Luis Gonzalez nearly 3 million to do it a couple years ago, not much less than Ankiel is making the first year in KC. Remember that at least half of Gonzo's salary was compensation for baby-sitting.
  9. me too. but i doubt morrow we ever develop into a great starter because of his diabetes diagnosis. i'm still intrigued in what prospect the jays are sending in return because he has to be pretty good Diabetes makes zero difference - for example, Jay Cutler has it - oh, wait.........
  10. Entertainers (including sports players) are taxed in the state in which they performed. So, for road trips to NY, their annual salary is pro-rated for state tax purposes. Yes, with about 50% of games in FL, there is a tax savings, but maybe not as much as you guys thought.
  11. IIRC, Pasta was one of the most requested pieces in trades a few years back. Too bad we didn't sell high - but who knew.............
  12. Keith Law pretty much has to vote for McCutchen in protest of baseball "higher-ups" who don't even know what WAR is. Let's go Cogs! as posted before Whats WAR good for?...Absolutely nothing! Say it again ........
  13. Good show - They sure aren't shy about killing off characters - I say Clay dies soon -
  14. X. Hill Street 9. LA Law 8. Seinfeld 7. Cheers 6. ER (S 1-7) 5. Steve Allen Show 4. The West Wing 3. Monty Python's Flying Circus 2. 24 1. SONS OF ANARCHY
  15. I'm surprised Wayne Rosenthal hasn't been mentioned - Isn't he still with us in the minor league system?
  16. The political right is represented by no one better than one E. Scrooge, who once said - "If they are going to die, let them do it now, and decrease the surplus population." God forbid anything is seriously wrong with you or any of your close family without insurance - that would add an interesting variation to your respective positions.
  17. So, why are they in such bad financial shape? I mean, their attendance isn't that bad, right? Is it payroll? ARod contract hangover? Ballpark financing costs?
  18. Back to the seat colors - I hope they go with a multi-color scheme including teal/black/other - the multi-color has the effect of disguising empty seats. They used this effectively in the Superdome, even before Katrina. We will not sell out every game forever......... no one does.
  19. Not everything is reported. For example, several years ago a "certain Marlin LHP" was openly cheating on his wife, and I'm sure that happens a lot. Do these stories get reported? Unless your initials are AR, the answer is no.
  20. Anybody who's played the game knows how hot it is inside those helmets. So, I think baserunners should be allowed to use their field cap. And Rawlings should consider doing a "one flap" vesion - again for the sake of heat.
  21. On Comcast South Dade - Sun was 47, now 38 FSN was 46, now 39
  22. You definitely need Dennis Cook, plus another LOOGY (not Pinto).
  23. See the John Roseboro/Juan Marichal incident from 1965 - Roseboro will always be remembered as the player that Dominican pitcher Juan Marichal clubbed over the head with a bat during a game between the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants at Candlestick Park on August 22, 1965. Earlier in the game, Marichal had knocked down Dodgers Maury Wills and Ron Fairly with brushback pitches. When Marichal came up to bat against Sandy Koufax in the third inning, Koufax wouldn't retaliate, but his catcher, Roseboro, apparently wanted to. Roseboro returned Koufax's pitches dangerously close to Marichal's face. Then, the future Hall-of-Famer hit Roseboro over the head with his bat three times, opening a two-inch gash that sent blood flowing down the catcher's face that would require 14 stitches. The Giants and the Dodgers, who nurture a heated rivalry with each other dating back to their days together in the New York market, and who were both strong contenders for the 1965 National League pennant, cleared their respective benches and began a 14-minute brawl on the field before Koufax, Giants captain Willie Mays and other peacemakers restored order. After the incident, NL president Warren Giles suspended Marichal for eight games, fined him $1,750, and also forbade him from traveling to Dodger Stadium for the final, crucial two-game series of the season. The Giants won both of them in the middle of a 14-game streak, but the Dodgers got even hotter later to win the pennant, and eventually defeated the Minnesota Twins in seven games in the World Series. Marichal contended Roseboro returned a pitch close to his nose. Roseboro said he did nothing to provoke Marichal reaction and later sued him for $110,000 in damages.
