  1. We parked at a house one block from the 1B parking garage (south side). Paid $20 and wasn't blocked in. Of course, we were super early - parked at 3:45. Nice lady - will go there again - she gave us her number to call in advance to reserve a spot! Stayed the whole game & slid out thru side streets south to home in Cutler Bay by 11:00.
  2. I went last night - beautiful park! The roof was closed with AC on for BP, then they opened the roof for the game - it was still comfortable. Won't happen in June-August though - different brand of HOT then. Loved the bobbleheads - decent collection including Marlins oldies (Tavares....). To take the cake, my spousal unit was in line to get a burger & the credit card machine wouldn't work. None other than D Samson himself appeared and paid for the whole thing with cold hard. Nice! Also attended the UM game with windows closed & noticed you couldn't see the skyline at all due to interior reflection of light. Not sure they can fix that, but hope they do....... Perhaps my favorite feature is the 360 degree walking path. Get a little exercize and see the game from many different perspectives - really nice. All in all, a great venue and worth the 20 year wait. I will be going a lot.
  3. Your best bet is near the civic center (approx NW 12 Ave & 12 St). This is "over the river" about 3/4 miles from the ballpark. Exit I-95 onto 836 West. Exit at 12 Ave. Head north and start hunting for a lot. Free is unlikely - I'm guessing at least $10 in that area for NYY 4/1. There are some spaces under 836 in the area that service the civic center and courthouse during the week. Or, if your up for an adventure, go south on 12th Ave and into the "neighborhood". Many homes will be selling spaces in their yards, but getting blocked in (or your paint job nicked up) is likely and prices won't be cheap. OTOH, it's a blue collar neighborhood, and should be pretty safe considering the expected foot traffic. Good luck!

Interesting - Webb does rate one notch better than Dave Stewart over his career. But, yeah, probably shot as of now. BBReference.com
  5. Checked it out - no bargains - $175 per ticket get you the cheapest package -
  6. Are the ground lots $15, or less? And where are they?
  7. So, does the league fine mgrs for spring ejections? Regular season?
  8. Too bad Mitt has to ask his handlers how he feels about any given issue - Weak candidate to send out against BHO - Look for an extreme blowout, with GOP turning hard right afterwards (like it isn't already).
  9. Flap that arm again, Cam baby. Flap, flap, flap,.............
  10. Will today's game be televised in South Miami area (Comcast 479)? MLB website sez "subject to local blackout"........
  11. I attended the game tonight. The stadium is a freaking gem.... The HR sculpture really enhances the ballpark, especially the space beyond the outfield. Possibly my favorite aspect of Marlins Park is the fact you can lap the entire concourse while always having a decent view of the field and players. HUGE UPGRADE..... really reminded me of Dodger Stadium in that regard. On a side note, I must have attended over a hundred Marlins games at the old stadium, but tonight caught my first Major League foul ball sitting in Section 23 of the new stadium. +1 Reminds me of New Comisky In CHI - thay have a great 360 walk track too. Excellent -
  12. It happened again. Granted I'm not a speedy typist, bit this is ridiculous! Signed, Still Frustrated
  13. I've been on-line since 10 AM, trying to buy tickets. I've been timed out 4 times!!! Anybody else having this problem? Signed, Frustrated
  14. The wildcard in MLB is the guaranteed contract - for every Stanton or Gaby, you've got a guy like Leiter circa 05 or Alex Fernandez, who were overpaid based on actual production but still got the cash.
  15. I think his inability to hang onto Pudge & DLee after 2003 was part of it. It was viewed as a mini-version of what HWH did after 1997, and the wounds were still too fresh to have healed yet.
  16. So let's see - It's July 28, and we're 2 games out of the wild card. We clearly need some more offense and Player X is available, if we agree to trade ex-Leo Nunez plus a top prospect. You can bet there will be "secret meetings" that Showtime is not invited to. The filmed meetings will be very carefully choreographed. This is not government in the sunshine. Just sayin'...........
  17. Good research by that author, considering the Marlins have said many times that the aquaria are bulletproof and have another layer on top of that, IIRC. If anything, it's common sense. They're not gonna put a friggin fish tank as a backstop if they weren't sure if it would handle objects at full speed. Anyone remember the ad from back in the 70s (?), where Bob Gibson was firing fastballs into a sheet of bulletproof plexiglass? If he couldn't break it, I think we're safe here 40 years later.
  18. Niner is the man. He could do nothing but eat bologna on the air, and he'd still be the man. Oh well.. Cliff and Preston will be cool Say what you will about PDub, he was a class act. It's like he grew up knowing what it takes to be a star (always dressed nicely, even when teammates were in t-shirts & sweats) and giving of his time to fans. As a CF, I always thought he made the easy plays look hard - his speed allowed him to compensate for lack of ball judgement and positioning. He would've been better as a corner OF (if the Marlins had anyone else to patrol center in 1998-2001). I did meet him and Cliffy at a preseason event (before the general public was let in). You could tell they were buds and would work together again someday. I think their show will be fun.
  19. People are missing the point here about two different reason for the Marlins to want him so bad...even if they know he's not proven, and there's a LIKELY chance that he will not perform up to the money we pay...he is an investment to put people in the stands and that's revenue, even if there are more capable and proven guys...the marlins have to balance the baseball productivity with the marketing aspect of it. Think Alex Fernandez. Yeah, different era / diiferent locale, but the lesson still applies. Short-term, we need nothing to boost sales. Long-term, winning boosts sales. I have a feeling YC's agent is inside his head. Left to himself, I see no way he would not want to be in Miami, even at a "discount".
  20. Any final word on his status for 2012? With WAS getting Jackson, Javy would sure look nice as our #4 or 5. Yeah, I know LB said the rotation was set, but still...........
  21. Marlins Baseball - Locked, Cocked, and Ready!
  22. For football, I always had good luck directly west of the stadium. Most houses a block or two west of 17th Avenue would have a kid out there with a flag waving you in. It's easy (tax-free) money for those working-class homeowners (or renters). I'd expect to pay $5-7 within a 4 block walk, but supply/demand will of course prevail. Oh, & beware being blocked in - you might pay a premium for "no blockee" spaces.
  23. Wil 4/4 be on FSN with Rich & Tommy? Prolly not, but we can hope..............
  24. the rings were cool - one in black and one in (loria's favorite) naranja.
  25. So I go out to the new tank to get some gear Saturday, and guess who waits on me? Yep - Pres. Dave S. himself! I was impressed that he was out there working side-by-side with the peons.
