I can't say I like him so much, but since I don't particularly have any real suggestions to replace him with, I won't lean one way or the other.

Yeah right? That's what I keep thinking when I read these posts about how we should have him manage the team. One word of him criticizing the front office or how it Loria and company run their business and he'll get the same treatment Girardi did.

I wasn't one blaming Fredi Gonzalez for all this team's problems, but I still never really liked him in the first place. Edwin has seemed to get the best out of what we have to give, and I like the way he observes his players and is very much in touch with what is going on with them. I'm hoping for him being retained.

He hasn't.

 

But having said that, he's not some magical motivator or some genius strategist.

I say keep him around if only because every time he opens his mouth, I can repeat Garrett Morris's Saturday Night Live parody of Chico Escuela: "Bazebol been berry, berry good to me."

 

To be serious, I'm indifferent. Hanley, Uggla, JJ, Stanton, LoMo, Cogs, Gaby and a few others are the core of the matter regardless of manager. Spend a few bucks on the bench and BP and anyone could manage the team.

 

He's better than Freddi, but that ain't saying much. Ozzie would certainly provide a soap opera and probably goose attendance a bit, but it remains to be seen whether the FO wants to devote money which could go to improving the product on the field to bumptious or potentially (even likely) insubordinate management. The Girardi experience says no, so Edwin probably stands a good chance of hanging around.

Honestly, I think it's too early to say "keep him" because he hasn't done anything to warrant him an automatic extension into 2011 and beyond.

 

But he definitely deserves to be one of the top candidates for next season.

Loria won't spend the money to get Ozzie.

 

Edwin will work cheap in a throwaway year for the Marlins ownership.

Id love Ozzie as he would bring attention to the team but I can't see him and Loria getting along that well. Wouldn't be upset if Edwin stayed but would like Ozzie.

I'd vouch for Edwin! He is 34-29 as manager I believe! I like his fire especially after the brawl. I almost spontaneously flew down to Miami to see JJ and "Joey Crack."

I like Edwin.. he is a genuinely nice man and I respect him a lot... I am just a huge fan of Ozzie.

3. Played for 15 years in the majors

4. Not afraid to call out players publicly

5. Despite this, players still LOVE playing for him.

I agree 100% and I am a big fan of Ozzie since in 2002, when the Marlins played an exhibition game with the Hurricanes at Mark Light Stadium, Ozzie took time to speak to my wife & I when we were sitting down the 3rd base side. It was just a comment like "you guys keeping dry & warm today" (it was drizzling and coolish that day) ? It was a cool thing to do, to be noticed by him. He's Ozzie G and I am not, if you get how I mean that.

if we are going to think about giving the job to someone from "03", lets offer the job to Brad Arnsberg, he help develop Halladay, and is the coach of that Houston rotation that right now is winning games for a bad Houston club.

Eh, hasn't been to bad but I rather them go after someone with a solid track record. Ozzie if he's available wouldn't be to bad, wouldn't mind them taking a look at Erik Wedge or giving Bobby V another call since he seems to love the talent in this organization. If they can't land anyone I wouldn't get upset over Edwin returning though.

Bringing in Leroux when Edwin had Veras is one of the reasons why I'm not sure of having Edwin next year. As commented in the game thread he tends to use NOLA players. True those are ones he has seen play, most likely, but he needs to watch all his players and use his scouts/coaches more to make comments/decisions on what all players are capable of.

Well I made this topic assuming Erick was the top candidate for the Cubs job already.

i really like Edwin i do think he should be given another year to manage this club and see what he does.

 

if i had to pick another manager i would deffinately vote for Ozzie!!
