Yoenis Cespedes to Athletics

Featured Replies

He may not even come visit the ballpark.

Marlins aren't gonna go "Pujols" to try and sign him either.

While the Marlins continue to negotiate with Yoenis Cespedes, the Cuban outfielder hasn't scheduled a visit to Miami to tour the ballpark. "I'm not sure he is going to visit," Samson said. "If it can be arranged and he wants to come see our ballpark and see Miami, it would be great. From our standpoint, we're aggressively negotiating a contract." Teams are currently allowed to negotiate, but not finalize a deal, with the free agent. "He has not been officially unblocked by governmental entities that need to do whatever they need to do to allow him to be employed in the United States. But MLB has given the right to teams to negotiate with him and come to a conclusion. But, again, our offseason is not dependent on signing Cespedes at all. This is an interesting player."

Two parody accounts.

If we sign him, I don't think the plan is for him to start the season in the major leagues.

It's not true anyway so doesn't matter much.

No player could be a professional with that mindset.

Well, he was an amateur player in Cuba. :p

You don't pay someone $5Mil+ to have him play AAA/AA ball?

Your question mark is throwing me off, I don't know how your phrasing it but...,,,

If he sucks in spring training, I would very much expect him to start in AAA.

Don't get me wrong, he's contributing to the 2012 team.

However, he's a June callup kind of guy. He's been playing in Cuba for his entire life, which is like A+ ball. He's going to need time in the minors, unless the Marlins want him to get absolutely annihilated in the majors.

I expect him to be with the team as a September callup. At 26, he's got a lot of time to learn. With Coghlan, Morrison, Stanton, and Bonifacio all guys who can put up really good numbers in CF, Cespedes isn't a necessary player on this team until later this season, or imo next season.

I don't think money will play a part in the decision to keep him up or send him down.

I dont think money is an issue but how about that whole deal of being brought here to attract the Cuban community? Unless he's absolutely atrocious, I don't see him going to AAA because he can't draw any Cubans to the games if he's playing in New Orleans.

In the first year of the stadium, they wont need him to draw crowds. However, long term he could be very useful as long as he plays well.

I agree with you 100% but still they made it a point that part of his coming here would be to hype up the Cuban/Latin community... they said it so I'd just think they'd try very strongly to maintain that point.

Exatly we know what he can do in the minor leagues, he had like 200 hrs/1000 RBI's last season in 90 games. We just need to see what he can do in the majors now.

No, we don't.

Cuba and AAA are not equal.

I think you might be underestimating cuban baseball...

He's not; the talent level in Cuba sucks.

Like he said before, it's A-level talent.
