December 16, 201114 yr And none us, that I know of are in the public eye. Saying regretful things numerous times in a public forum is a sign of immaturity, at the very least, and/or ignorance, at the very worst. BTW has he said he will play third base yet thus clearing up the hullabaloo?
December 16, 201114 yr has he said he will play third base yet thus clearing up the hullabaloo? Reyes was signed on 12-5. On 12-6 Ramirez tweeted "Everybody it's waiting to see what's gonna happen with me or what I [sic] gonna do right?" and, a few minutes later "What I am gonna do is work hard and get ready for next season because that is the only thing I can control I love y'all!!!!" http://content.usato...marlins-party/1 Which amounts to a non-denial denial of an implied question. He didn't say he won't play 3rd, but he didn't indicate any enthusiasm about the Reyes signing at all. Didn't even mention Reyes. Non-sequitur. Since then, nothing. Maybe his version of being a drama queen is to string everyone along for as long as possible, just for laughs. Maybe he has no real problem with the change. Maybe he does. Can't tell from what he's said to date. One could reasonably conclude that the 10 day silence means that he does have some degree of objection. That line of reasoning would also lead one to conclude that it would have been no trouble for him to say something like "I'm looking forward to playing 3B, the Reyes signing was a master stroke, I'm going to knock in a sh!tload of runs with Reyes and Boni in front of me and Stanton behind me and we're going to win next year, I can't wait for the season to start." Of course, he's not under any obligation to say anything and his silence may mean absolutely nothing and he's going to play 3B without even so much as a whimper about it. We simply don't know.
December 16, 201114 yr If I may interject here, just to pass this tweet along: Buster_ESPN Buster Olney Boston among teams that have had cursory trade dialogue about Hanley Ramirez this offseason. No traction with MIA/BOS talks, though.

December 17, 201114 yr Switch to 3B remains an issue, apparently, with #marlins Hanley Ramirez: -@clarkspencer http://twitter.com/#!/clarkspencer/status/148123437548834816 M***** f***ing Clark Spencer
December 17, 201114 yr The question is the definition of "issue.". I expect him to not be thrilled. But if he'll be ready to play and play hard come Spring Training, then it's not a big deal.
December 17, 201114 yr I'll reserve judgement on Hanley's attitude toward Jose Reyes and converting to third base until Spring Training -- when he actually has to face these issues or non-issues. I'm pretty sure third base and Reyes will be the first questions asked of Hanley by the media when he reports to Spring Training.
December 17, 201114 yr It's a win-win for the Marlins, as far as I'm concerned. If Hanley is happy, cool. If Hanley is not happy, Hanley is still going to have to produce because it's his career, at the end of the day. His resume/more impressive resume = more money when that day comes for him. If they feel like trading him, it should get us a nice return. I'd keep him even if he doesn't feel like playing 3B. He can be as selfish as he wants at the plate because being selfish can be good in baseball. If he sucks at 3B, oh well; it's not as if he didn't suck at shortstop, defensively. Despite his mediocrity there, he was still very valuable at the SS position. That won't change at 3B considering there aren't many 3B in the big leagues, today, capable of putting up the offensive #'s he's capable of putting up. We're fine.
December 17, 201114 yr Has Hanley even said anything about this? All I've heard from is Buster Olney and some reporters.
December 17, 201114 yr If the FO really wants to "pamper" Hanley, why not give him a choice of playing 3B or CF? People are happier when they are given a choice and Bonifacio can just fill in at the other one. I know it's not an ideal solution, but a happy Hanley is a good Hanley.
December 17, 201114 yr Has Hanley even said anything about this? All I've heard from is Buster Olney and some reporters. No. That's the annoying part.
December 17, 201114 yr The thing I don't understand is if they are such good friends, how have they not had time to talk since all these rumors of us signing him untill now. Not even a "hey how's it going, look forward to playing with ya." especially with Hanley lounging around. Im thinking Hanley feels some resentment towards Jose and of course alot towards the front office. I would just like Hanley to be a good teammate and come out and welcome reyes. No he's not required to do it but if you want to be a team player then Come out and do it. You dont hqve to come out to the media and say Your happy To be playin third but atleast when Jose is asked he can say you guys have talked and are looking forward to playing with Each other. I'm sure your going to disagree Squall; because we have gone around before about being a good teammate. But I wouldn't expect anything less.

I highly doubt that would make things any better for him.

December 18, 201114 yr I read Jose and Hanley haven't talked since the signing. Reyes could call Hanley here. This all needs to resolved before ST.
December 18, 201114 yr Has Hanley even said anything about this? All I've heard from is Buster Olney and some reporters. Yeah. He said he "can't wait to hear the crowd."

December 18, 201114 yr Has Hanley even said anything about this? All I've heard from is Buster Olney and some reporters. Yeah. He said he "can't wait to hear the crowd." Obviously, that means he wants to be traded to the Red Sox, because you know we don't attract fans in Miami. Trade him.

Personally I think Hanley has a right to be pissed about it. I would be too in his situation. And no where in my post did I say he had no right to be pissed. Be pissed and request a trade privately but Hanley and the organization need to have a level of respect for each other. The org has done alot to make Hanley feel like a hero here and has been more than supportive. Hanley not coming out and saying anything directly about third base and stirring up these trade rumors lets other teams know he wants out, lowering his value, hurting us. He has the right to be pissed but if he can't look and see that his defense is below Reyes and that he has a chance to be our long term third baseman, that could turn out to be a great left infield, then I couldn't give a damn about his feelings. If he cares more about his stats then winning a world series then he can try to win one when we ship his ass to Oakland or some other no name city. And this is only if he can't get over the fact that he's moving to third.
