Sure would have been nice if he came out and said this a month ago. I'm sure he was aware that this was a big deal, and that he could have prevented a lot of speculation on his behalf with just a small statement on the matter. Or maybe it took him a month to finally reign in his ego and accept the position change.

 

And what's so bad about this? You're a former rookie of the year and batting champion, one of the top SS in the game, and you are forced to change positions, and you can't take a little while to let it set in? That's ridiculous.

Does he have to? No, why should he care what people on the internet think. Should he have said something a little sooner? I think so, but that's just me. I know I would welcome a fellow elite player if it meant I had a better chance to win a WS.

But Buster Olney said Hanley wanted out! He had sources and everything!

Hanley Ramirez has fallen well short of embracing a move to third base to accommodate fellow Dominican countryman and National League All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes. That appears to be changing. In a Spanish Associated Press story out of Santo Domingo,

Ramirez made his most definitive statement to date that a move to third would not be an issue.

 

“I’ve spoken with [manager Ozzie] Guillen and what we want is to win with the Marlins,� Ramirez told the AP on Friday during batting practice at Quisqueya Stadium. “When January comes, we’re going to see what happens with the position change and everything else. If it’s third base, fine. Wherever they put me to win, I’ll do it.�

 

Ramirez added that his relationship with Reyes is good, saying: “There’s no problem between Reyes and me. I respect him a lot and he’s a great person…We’re new Marlins, and also a new Hanley. Good things are coming for the coming season.�

 

In September, Ramirez underwent left shoulder surgery. He said the shoulder has responded well and he’s 95 percent through the recovery process. “I’m happy and better than ever,� he said.

Or, you know, he could have specifically said he is willing to move to 3B in said interview, which is really the issue at hand. Not whether he is just happy to have Reyes on the team, but more specifically that he is willing to move for him. No harm though, he did finally come out and accept, and that's all that really matters. I'm glad this drama ended now and didn't extend into spring training.

I still think it was true. I believe Ozzie Guillen and the Marlins front office calmed him down over the last month though and rationalized things for him.

If the Miami Marlins decide to trade shortstop Hanley Ramirez, the Boston Red Sox could be among the suitors.

 

Boston GM Ben Cherington has contacted Miami to see if the team really is interested in trading the three-time All-Star, The Boston Globe reports.

I am allowed to believe Hanley was, is and will continue to be a headache for this franchise and they would be better off in the long run without him, and whatever they can get in return for him. Your denial of my right to my opinion, and insistence that I conform to the majority opinion is what continues to make you and others here into the childish cyber bullies you are. I was getting tired of all the media and most friends saying he didn't want to move to 3B when the only "proof" of that was him saying "I am a shortstop." when the team was still looking into signing Reyes. At least this puts that to rest. I really don't care if he ever felt that way and/or if the FO and new manager had any input on his current mind set. It's the reported mind set now, "rumors" be damned.

 

What I do keep hearing is "Since he signed that big contract...." Most know the rest of that theory. Now is his chance to overcome that one. Hanley hasn't ever shown much of a maturity level. Even after each off season saying something along the lines of "I am a new Hanley." He said it again in the interview. And once again, as fans, alls we can do is wait and see. For whatever reason, some people never do reach any level of maturity regardless of age or circumstances. We can only hope Hanley isn't one of them.

I have a slight problem with the "was, is, and will continue to be" part of your post. I'll give you the "was" part. Maybe even grudgingly the "is" part. And although you can point to his history as evidence of the "will continue to be" part, I have to disagree. Some people simply take a little longer to mature. Some never do. Age has nothing to do with it, but I am going to at least hope that Hanley is reaching that level. If he shows he hasn't, then it wouldn't surprise me to see a trade take place during the season.
