. . . Soooo . . . Hanley and 3B?

Featured Replies

hopefully Hanley just comes out pissed and just outplays Reyes by a country mile =) best scenario possible because he re-establishes his value after an awful 2011 and then becomes a HUGE trade chip if need be after next season!

How long will it take Hanley to embrace reality?

It's less than 2 months until pitchers and catchers report for ST. The longer this pouting and silence goes on, the more the question will become when does Loria lose patience with his prima donna. Loria has bigger fish to fry (so to speak) than Hanley, and he only gets one chance to do it.

The question should be answered soon, I doubt that Loria is in much of a mood to screw around after committing almost 200 million with more to come.

what kind of trade value does he have out there? Red Sox? What could we realistically take from them that would be useful to us right now?

Fat starting pitchers who like to chug beer in the clubhouse during games.

I still dont see how him staying silent or not directly addressing 3b is pouting. Nothing has happened yet. Nothing. How anyone can invent either requesting a trade or being super duper happy is beyond me. Nothing has happened.

I think that its the implied point of contention. That is unless you deny that having 2 ex-Batting Champ Short Stops is a point of possible contention that needs to be addressed. In principle, you are right, he doesnt have to say anything but as the leader it should be expected in my opinion

The latest:

Reyes signed a $106 million, six-year deal with Miami last week [that's incorrect, he signed on 12-5, 13 days ago, not "last week"] and said he hasn't heard from Ramirez since. There has been no phone call, text message or Christmas card from his pal and fellow Dominican

Which is passing strange. It becomes stranger by the day. Kind of passive-aggressive. The sort of stuff drama-queens are made of.

But, as I said a page or so ago on this thread:

he's [Hanley] not under any obligation to say anything and his silence may mean absolutely nothing and he's going to play 3B without even so much as a whimper about it.

We simply don't know.

And we still don't know. But, as I also said, Loria is going to run out of patience at some point, he doesn't need any side-shows while he's trying to spend serious money on winning.

The idea that Hanley's not a leader is reinforced as his silence continues. He might be well served by making some sort of at least minimally positive statement, regardless of how much he hates the whole idea of 3B.

I know it may be "the principal of the matter", but lemme just say this.

If I was getting paid $15 million, I would take 30 steps to the right if my boss told me to...

Is it mandatory for Hanley to call Reyes?

Reyes can call Hanley, too.

Or they can not talk at all, and just come to Spring Training performing like the very good ballplayers that they both are; that would be good enough for me.

HOT STOVE BUZZ: Boston Red Sox GM Ben Cherington has contacted Miami to see if the team really is interested in trading the three-time All-Star, The Boston Globe reports.

If Marlins were to deal Ramirez to Red Sox, they'd certainly ask about pitcher Clay Buchholz and third baseman Kevin Youkilis in exchange

Do you guys think that all of this contempt for each other on this subject could be a deep seeded mistrust for the organization as a whole. I know there are those that take every word that comes from the Organization as gospel. We have been burned by some of these guys before. I mean just looking over some of the threads that are most contentious and the theme is the same. The Organization says something and we have people that believe whole-heartily and we have some that take everything with a grain of salt. For example:

1. Organization says they talked with Hanley he was fine with playing a different position and people still think there is a rift there.

2. Organization says they arent interested in Prince and still people think we are still in on him.

Guys, I am guilty of being on the untrusting side of these arguments. God knows there is enough evidence on both sides of the issue for people the believe what they believe. The more I think about it I feel that alot of these mistrust issues that I have had in the past stem from money issues and the team is clearly attempting to turn the page on these past issues so I am cautiously going to try doing the same. I guess in closing, I think we should at least attempt to see why people feel the way they do regardless of whether you agree with them or not.

P.S. I still dont like you Squall :hammer

I just find it hard to believe that the FO didnt have conversations with Hanley about moving to thirdbase. They have made it clear that he is the face of the franchise in the past and it makes no sense to not talk with Hanley about it untill after you have signed. You have to believe some sort of talks went on before we signed him even if it consisted of Hanley being asked to move or asked what he was feeling about the idea.

Theyve said plenty of times that they talked to him before the signing was made.

Yeah I know, I was responding to knglover since he was saying some people might not believe that the front office had talked to him. Even if you don't believe the FO, it doesnt make since to disbelieve them. And I'm not saying your one of them knglover.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hanley Ramirez gave his clearest statement yet on a possible position change, telling the AP's Dionisio Soldevila on Friday, "I've talked with [Ozzie] Guillen, and what we both want is to win with the Marlins. When January arrives, we'll see what happens with the position change and everything else. If it's at third, fine. Wherever they put me, I'll do it in order to win." As for his surgically repaired shoulder, Ramirez described it as responsive and 95 percent healed.

per MLBTR

And that is what Ozzie will be best at while with this team. Calming down Hanley.

. . . Soooo . . . /thread?

Sure would have been nice if he came out and said this a month ago. I'm sure he was aware that this was a big deal, and that he could have prevented a lot of speculation on his behalf with just a small statement on the matter. Or maybe it took him a month to finally reign in his ego and accept the position change.
