. . . Soooo . . . Hanley and 3B?

Featured Replies

he has had problems with more than one manager he has played for

Prove me wrong on this one, but I only know of his problems with Fredi. I've never heard of any problems with Girardi, Edwin, or Jack. Please, prove me wrong, cause I'd like to know.

He and Edwin and then Jack went at it subtlety several times last year. It doesn't have to bludgeon you over the head, but requires you to read between the lines. It was speculated at the time of his resignation that because Hanley didn't like Edwin (because Edwin wanted him to grow up) he sort of "ratted on him" to Loria and it was one of the reasons Edwin "resigned" (of course the losing streak didn't help).

I've never heard anything like this. Where did you ever hear he didn't like Edwin?

Jack, I can see him and Hanley going at it every so often, but I never heard anything between Edwin and Hanley.

Go back to when Hanley was playing badly and read some of the press clips about Hanley and what Edwin said. Its there if you look. I remember it, because at the time I said to my son, one of them (Edwin or Hanley) will be gone from this team soon, they can't coexist for very long with that kind of pall hanging over the clubhouse.

Didn't McKeon bench Hanley on his first day managing?

I believe so. Or it was not but a handful of days into his tenure.

My main poin in my entire diatribe was that the bottom line to all of this is that the one person that can clear this up is the very person that seems to be causing issue here.

Hanley needs to say that he will switch positions. he doesn't even need to do it happily, he just says it and I (and others surely) am back on his bandwagon. Its that simple. But he hasn't in the 5 days since we have known about Reyes signing.

gizmo, are you insinuating that chicken makes black people unable to read? :)

I don't see a black person in that picture. I only see a very happy man with chicken. Shame on you Canes......shame on you.

Ha he is very happy. I would party with him. Just not the party in my pants type party.

Hey guys, I am not normally into the whole conspiracy thing but I have watched this video a few times and I keep coming up with the same reaction. It just doesnt sound right to me. I think until we hear him say "I have accepted that if I am going to be part of this franchise, my position will be playing 3rd base", we have to assume there are going to be problems. I mean come on guys, his previous track record does not give him the benefit of the doubt otherwise, in my opinion. Let's not forget that this whole situation can be put to bed with one statement from Hanley and there are no signs that it is coming. I am beyond giving him the benefit of the doubt and i really like the guy and I hope he comes to his senses and plays ball.

Explain his terrible track record. He booted a ball once. Lots of players have a lapse in judgement. Most if not all haven't had to deal with the barrage of made up crap that hanley has received.

Are you really asking me about his poor track record? Seriously! I get so sick of people asking for people to explain his previous "incidents". I think you all read the same things that we all read. Yeah he half-assed that ball he booted, he has had problems with more than one manager he has played for, and numerous "talks" have been had between he and veteran players. Isnt that enough? Stop asking for proof, I have no more proof than you do. Its in the numerous reports that have been released from numerous outlets. Stop being dillusional to the fact that this guy is nothing more that a self important Manny wanna-be. I operate my life under the pretense that where there is smoke, there is fire. The guy has issues. Stop blindly sticking up for him. it isnt healthy. furthermore, how can you disagree in any form that this could all be quelled with Hanley coming out and saying publicly that he will make whatever change is necessary for the team. Why won't he do that? Flip the script and ask you that? And frankly, you joke about the whole trying to be troll of the year contest winner or WTF that thing is for the Pujols crap you tried feeding us but it did nothing more than make you look like an irratating horses ass and you have lost all credibility in my book. "Made up Crap!" Thats laughable!

So, you write a giant paragraph about how much it upsets you the way a baseball player and a guy on the internet act, both of whom should have no real impact on your life, and yet you tell the other guy that his (maybe unduly) optimistic outlook toward said baseball player isn't healthy?

Take a peek in the mirror.

Cal Ripken Jr wasn't happy when he had to move to 3rd, and everybody views him as the ultimate professional. Give it some time. If he's complaining during the season, then it's a problem. For now, it's really not a big deal if he's upset.

He really should say he'll switch positions. Like I said a while back in the thread, you can't hurt the team defensively and expect there not to be consequences.

He has a right to be upset about switching positions. He'd been billed as the franchise player (after earning that title with his performance) and has been regarded as the best SS in baseball. Asking him to move aside for Reyes is a bit of a slap in the face right now.

He's hardly been the best SS in baseball defensively (actually he's probably been one of the worst the last two years). And franchise player or not, when you bring in the batting champ who has been much better than you on defense in each of the last two years, you should understand and accept the switch.

Can he be disappointed? Sure. But he should also understand where the club is coming from.

All aspects of the game considered, Hanley has been arguably the best player who plays SS. There was no real need to upgrade him. Reyes is better defensively, but not by a wide margin. Arguably Reyes is a below average defender (or average at best), but his injury problems might be much to blame here.

Hanley has had two seasons of 7.5 WAR baseball; Reyes has never come close to that. I don't blame Hanley for balking to move after having just one poor season ridden with injuries. He's earned a longer leash than that at SS.

I'd like to see some evidence that Hanley was feuding with Edwin (which allegedly led to Edwin's resignation), because that is the exact opposite of everything I remembered happening at the time (beginning of the 2011 season).

I'm kind of depressed this thread has even reached 16 pages. Is Hanley really such a polarizing figure? Hanley and everyone in the Marlins organization have long moved on from the ball-booting incident. Some of us should, too.

Some old schmuck called 790 tonight when I was driving home from work to talk about how we should sign Cecil Fielder and trade both Nolasco and Hanley because they are bums

Didn't he say he wanted to only play for Edwin and he supported him and was on his side...etc. when all the fire edwin/edwin resign stuff happened? I'm pretty sure they had a good relationship
