Marlins
I really hope we could get rid of him. All his humor off the field is really annoying when we pay him big bucks expecting great things and he pitches like utter crap-often just throwing fastballs. Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Marlins will "absolutely try and try hard" to move closer Heath Bell. Good luck with that one. Bell has been a disaster in the first year of a three-year, $27 million contract, posting a 6.05 ERA and six blown saves. Naturally, the Marlins aren't optimistic they'll be able to find a taker. cdy_0513
I really hope we could get rid of him. All his humor off the field is really annoying when we pay him big bucks expecting great things and he pitches like utter crap-often just throwing fastballs. When a pitcher is struggling, they resort to the easiest pitch to throw...the fastball. If all you can throw for a strike is a fastball, you're going to get hit, and hit hard. He does have the tools to be a dominant closer. He has done it before. I'm upset about this year, but this deal does still have a chance to work out. If he isn't traded by the deadline, shut him down for the rest of the year. For the rest of the season he needs to be working on re-learning his mechanics and delivery, and fixing his mental state. As I said, he can be successful, but there is a lot of work to be done. It is just a horrific year. They happen. Entendu
Trading him will only lessen the prospects we get back. It's really really not worth it at this point.

Jonny Ramos
We'll probably end up eating most of his contract if we do move him, that is, before he eats it.
The_Punisher
We will have to literally take a hit on his contract in any trade scenario unless we include a Hanley or Stanton. Like a Beckett/Lowell trade with Boston. Lowell was struggling at the time and big time. I see us trading him and paying half his contract for a low A-ball prospect. Sumlit
Moving the fat bastard will be very hard. You're going to have to include additional players in addition to maybe taking at least half his salary, to even get at least someone interested. What a bust. Could have given that money to Yoenis Cespedes.

Mr. Man
Yeah, I don't see it happening with out either eating some of his contract or including additional players in a trade. I would rather they eat some of his contract. Of course this isn't my money so they they need to do what they have to do. But the best thing about a deal if they can do it is that he will be gone. A dream deal would be if they could package him and Buck together. Anything we can get for those two would be a bonus.
Marlins
I really want the Marlins to trade him but deep down inside I know that Bell has proven he's an elite closer in the past and not just a 1 year wonder or something like that. Even with his struggles this season I don't think anyone here actually thinks he won't be able to put things back together sometime and be a top level closer again. I think the best thing to do is therefore just hold on to him and wait until he's able to go back to his old self. At this point his trade value is as low as its been almost since he started pitching. I'm totally sick of him but the fact is that if the Marlins are gonna trade him-now definitely isn't the smartest time to do it...So sadly, I have to say I think the Marlins should keep him (unless, of course, they're offered a good deal for him-but that seems very doubtful considering how hes pitched this season). Hammerhead
Yeah, no one's going to want him. As long as we're out of it (and we are) let him work on his sh*t and see if he can get back to where he was. He deserves that chance.

I wouldn't care if they get no players back. The hope would be that another team would eat much of that ridiculous contract. Unfortunately, I don't think other teams are that stupid. Admin
Wonder if the disaster of Heath Bell will prevent us from signing other big name FA's going forward? They just need to learn the lesson that giving multi-year deals to "proven" closers is a bad investment. It's poor bang for your buck and there is just too much volatility among the "proven" closers. Even if you put aside the fact that Heath Bell has become a joke of a pitcher that nobody could have expected, it was still a poor signing.
