September 26, 201312 yr The obvious but still: http://www.baseballnation.com/2013/9/26/4773318/greg-dobbs-contract-miami-marlins-2014-saved Oh. Somebody's wanted to pay him since June. I guess that would make at least a little bit of sense, if he was hitting in June. Halfway through June, Dobbs was hitting .213/.284/.284. Huh. Sometimes it's probably better if the owner isn't making roster decisions. And sometimes it's probably better if the owner isn't the owner at all.
September 26, 201312 yr lol If you don't like the deal, don't blame President of Baseball Operations Admin Beinfest or General Manager Mike Hill as neither had anything to do with it. Owner Jeffrey Loria, the source said, negotiated the pact unbeknownst to his top baseball officials. this is not normal. nothing against viner but the panthers got a new owner and not it is time for the marlins.
September 26, 201312 yr Somewhere, Willy Taveres is phoning Loria asking if he needs a speed demon on the team to replace Pierre.

September 26, 201312 yr When even Wild Card can't justify it....... I think, for the first time, I might actually consider rooting for a new team. I'm not moving back to FL anytime soon, anyway. I'll never leave MB.com, though. I'm curious if ... is going to defend this, and then blame the fans for not going to the stadium to prevent this from happening. Signing a player without the FO knowing is so passive aggressive garbage. He must really want Beinfest to quit so he wouldn't have to comp him his contract.
September 26, 201312 yr Guys, the one thing that needs to be asked about all this ... Should we be worried?
September 26, 201312 yr Is Dobbs the most hated Marlin? When did this happen? Evidentially, same time Stanton turned into Drama queen version of Hanley.
September 27, 201312 yr mystikol87 likes this If you can't laugh at this team, then there's not really much at all you can do.
September 27, 201312 yr Seriously, I don't know why I waste any mental energy on this pathetic excuse of a franchise. Best point made so far: we refused to throw in cash in the Nolasco deal and got crappier prospects in return. Loria = evil owner from the movie Major League. I wonder if San Antonio or Las Vegas would even take this team now...
September 27, 201312 yr I wonder if San Antonio or Las Vegas would even take this team now... And yet, I'm sure if they moved out of the state, you'd bitch and moan about not having a team anymore.

I wonder what happened
September 27, 201312 yr Dobbs for less than a mill? OK. A good lefty bat off the bench who plays good defense at multiple positions is certainly a good thing, but he ain't either of those. Waltz and Hutton used to rave about Dobbs' hitting with a guy on 3B and less than 2 outs. Now, they hardly mention it, since he's sucked all year. They've reverted to the "professional at-bat" trope. I have two theories on this goofy signing: 1) Loria has lost his mind. 2) Dobbs has pictures. Any way you slice it, Dobbs appears to be the new Helms. Just be happy that he wasn't signed for two years.
September 27, 201312 yr Loria is going to fire everyone one in the front office and name himself the G.M. He wants to follow Jerry Jones' footsteps with the Cowboys.

September 27, 201312 yr If the reports are true about the $37m payroll next year,, then the absurdity of that $1,7m number is even more apparent.
September 27, 201312 yr Dobbs is the new Helms. The Marlins blew their load early on Helms too when their was probably zero market for him. He was sucking pretty badly in 2010 but part way through the season they decided to guarantee him $1 million for 2011.
September 27, 201312 yr Heath Bell & the Toronto deal were also taking up around 10 mil i think which is freed up next season - would normally be a good thing but not sure it'll matter.
