Brinson

Featured Replies

Now Mark Melancon made a comment about Brinson "disrespecting the game"... this is ridiculous. Nobody on the Giants remembers that Strickland brushed back Brinson on the first pitch? Then Brinson, a guy who's struggled all year long, gets a game tying single in the 9th inning... why wouldn't he get pumped up in that situation? Nothing there is disrespectful to the game nor is he showing anyone up. There's a difference between being disrespectful and showing some fire in big situations and I don't think I've ever seen a situation more clearly defined that has been flipped so stupidly by the other side.

I dunno why is it ok for a pitcher to show fire up emotions after a strike out third out with bases loaded but a hitter can not in responding situations

it's dumb and part of the unwritten "code".  Personally, I don't give a shit if someone flips a bat, talks shit, stares down, etc.  It's competition for christsakes.  I've seen worse in a bowling alley or in playing Candyland.

Mark Melancon’s contract is disrespecting the game.

They're the Argentina World Cup Team of baseball.

I know you're trying to be funny but you're not, Giants score quite a lot while Argentina missed penalty kicks and were humiliated by Croatia, the comparison is not even close

Half a season gone. Brinson needs to sit or go down. His defense is not as good as claimed. Give Austin Dean in AAA a chance he earned it.

He was way better in June. At least he seems to be moving up and that's not a joke about him being at rock bottom anyways. It'd be odd to demote him now honestly.

Brinson's defense has been worth about a win, so he hasn't been that bad in that regard. If his bat were anywhere near consistently big league ready, which I really do think he'll get there eventually, he'll be at the very least a serviceable player.

This month Brinson has been hitting. if he does this the rest of the year it was a good move. Austin Dean needs to finish the year where he is. Right now there isn't much power in his bat.

yeah, had to watch his sorry attempts to swing at pitches again when they played Arizona again last week.  Even the moronic Dbacks announcers were wondering what he was swinging at on multiple attempts.  I guess it doesn't make much sense to send him down at this point though.  I don't see him ever being much more than a defensive sub for his career just based on how awful his swing is.  There are guys that struggle when they come up but you can see something in their swing or at least a glimmer of pitch recognition but this dude just doesn't seem to have it. He's a poor man's Maybin - how cool is it we have both?!

Before certain folks throw their rotten tomatoes at me for deigning to speak negatively about Brinson please let me remind you that I do want him to succeed as I still want the Fish to win consistently.  I'm just floored at how awful he looks at the plate in the limited time I've seen him this year.  He honestly doesn't look any better than most pitchers out there swinging at everything in hopes they make contact.  Oh well, it's a completely lost season and it's not like they're going to get a do-over on that hose job with Milwaukee so here's hoping he can maybe eke over .200 by the end of July?

He had an .848 OPS in June with 93 PAs. That is encouraging.

His ABs the past few games have been discouraging but I don’t see any value in sending him down. He’s already killed AAA pitching.

I wish he would just get over Mendoza. I think his average is having a negative impact on him mentally.

i'm sure it does take a toll on him. most athletes are competitive to an extreme which plays a large part in getting to the level they're at. Being a sub .200 batter is pretty bad this far into the season and although batting average isn't as highly regarded as it once was - being below .200 is still awful.  I'd have been more encouraged if he didn't look so lost at the plate and wasn't swinging at stuff that even G wouldn't have swung at during that epic slump of his.  That's my biggest concern and why I'm not sure his bat will ever make him worthy of an everyday role (outside our tanking it years).  I still hope something finally clicks for him but man does he ever have a long, long, long way to go in terms of pitch recognition and putting up a quality at-bat.
