July 29, 20197 yr Can't wait for the first updates on Lewin from @MrAndMrsFish He didn't make his debut this past weekend, lets see if he gets the nod on Monday. BTW was not a fan of giving up Vallimont....but only time will tell how Lewin grows on me...i've seen the metrics and i've seen everything that has been said about Vallimont.....but time will tell.
July 29, 20197 yr I find it interesting that Sergio Romo, who last pitched against the White Sox in Chicago, flies down to Miami for two games that he did not pitch in, only to be traded to the Twins and fly back to Chicago for a game he did not pitch in and now is flying back to Miami for a two game set against the Marlins.

July 30, 20197 yr 0% of Marlins fans had heard of Chris Vallimont before today. Believe it or not, I saw him pitch about a month ago and his pitching was very impressive. He was about the only impressive Marlin on the field.

July 30, 20197 yr For it to be a disaster Vallimont would probably have to be a multiple time All star and Diaz would never make it to the majors for an extended period of time. I'd consider this a low risk trade.
July 30, 20197 yr I'm sure ya'll missed my doom and gloom posts immensely but alas I was at the Gilroy Garlic festival (Yes, that one) on a long overdue vacation and was unavailable to add my 0.02 to this trade. I'll have to admit when I first saw Romo was traded I was pleased as they're actually moving guys that A. have no business being on the team long term and B. who were signed for exactly this reason. Then I saw that we traded Romo plus Vallimont (yes, I too had heard of him) and a PTBNL and thought it was a gross overpayment for just acquiring another minor leaguer who's not a top prospect. But...meh...Vallimont and Diaz are the same age I believe (22 i think?) and he's the more advanced prospect of the two. I'm still not sure why a PTBNL needed to be included to get the deal done but it does help with an area of need moving forward and barring some idiotic move with the PTBNL it's probably fairly even.

I like the numbers Diaz has put up to this point, and if he can be up next year, great! Diaz is viewed as a top talent by the Marlins organization. I can't find the tweet/quote, but Hill said something to the point that they viewed him as a top 10 hitter in the minors. This wasn't a "Hey, what will you guys give us for Romo". This was Hill and Co. going out and getting a guy they wanted. With that understanding it really puts the trade into perspective and makes it clear why the ptbnl was nessecary. This wasn't the Romo trade, this trade was the Lewin Diaz trade that happened to include Sergio Romo.
July 31, 20197 yr Lewin was 0-8 in his first two games in our 2A team, he's a bust and we're the loser in this trade.
