Certainly seems like they're waiting for something.

I guess they're trying to play chicken?  With both FA targets and trade targets?

The problem is, it's not a direct game of chicken.  There are other players that can jump in and take them and we get nothing.

I wonder if it’s a situation where they’re going to add 2. If they can get a Conforto, they might be more apt to ride with Laureano (Conforto can help supplement some of the offense, another lefty bat, etc).

If they miss on the Conforto, Castellanos, etc tier OFers, maybe they overpay for Reynolds knowing thats their only way to get impact offense, and supplement with a lesser FA bat

How about trade the house for Laureano, Montas, and Kemp - I'm talking Meyer, Sixto, Cabrera, one of Bleday/Burdick/Salas, Fulton, Nunez/Morisette/Lewis, and Jerer/Conine/Fitterer/etc. in a 7-3 blockbuster. Three top 100 guys (even if Sixto is hurt), a fourth almost top 100 guy, and 3 really good flyers.

What do we care about those pitchers if Sandy, Rogers, Pablo, Montas, and Luzardo is the core rotation for at least 2 years, Hernandez, Garrett, Poteet, and Neidert are the backups behind them which is pretty good, and Eury, Eder, and let's say # 1 pick in 2022 is the SP pipeline? That's a lot of controlled arms.

They then can ditch Aguilar and Bass and can afford one of Soler or Kenley (replace w/ Lewin or 6th RHP bullpen arm for other), or spend a little over $90m and do BOTH of those things. If Kenley is too expensive, sign Tepera or Duffy instead, etc.

Maybe a complete unload to Oakland is the move. You can tweak those names a bit too as if Watson/Eury have to be in the deal, you just downgrade players 3-5, etc.

I appreciate the aggressiveness and outside the box thinking, but I’m too high on Edward to consider that. He’s going to have a big year

Eury is untouchable per the Marlins FO.

I don't know how to posts memes, but insert Tommy Lee Jones from The Fugitive saying "I don't care"

Eury is untouchable to them to inflate his value in a trade (even if they do really like him, as they should).

So then you swap him out and add Eury, remove Fulton for a nominal piece, make them take Bleday or Burdick versus Salas (to preserve IF) and take Lewis out from the either/or as he has higher upside. Basically the 7-3 turns into this:

Montas, Laureano, Kemp
Eury, Meyer, Sixto, Bleday/Burdick, Morisette/Nunez, Jerar/Conine, and token outside top 25-30 prospect

Neither team can say no here, right? If I am low, you swap in Lewis over Morisette and who cares? Or Eder over Sixto? Who cares there also?

The Marlins have Cabrera/Luzardo in the bullpen for 2 years with this (and Hernandez permanent bullpen), and Eder/Sixto, Fulton, McCambley, Velez, and presumably # 1 pick 2022 as top 5 pitchers in the system. The rotation is Sandy, Rogers, Montas, Pablo, Cabrera/Luzardo.

We don't care about the pitchers at all if we keep Pablo AND get someone like Montas.

Why doesn't @MarlinsLou work for the Marlins FO?

It's easy to play armchair GM, however, this unique situation they are in is conceptually easy - they need at least 2 really good players and just need to use assets/money to get them. CF must be via trade, so go get one. Then depending on how cheap you are, the other one also has to be a trade or spend some F'ing money.

So why not do both and build in a failsafe. Get 3+ guys. Blow Oakland out of the water and unleash the farm for Laureano/Montas/Kemp. Those guys had 9 WAR last year, which is optimistic to happen again, but it's not like we are mad at 6+.

Then you can ditch Aguilar and Bass ($10m somehow) and get a shiny new toy - Soler, Kenley, spending a little more and get Castellanos.

The team is then awesome and literally no one of consequence is a FA for 2 years.

Do they see what the Florida Panthers are doing? I mean seriously. Invest in the team. People don't go to games because you don't do anything.

Sounds not bad.

So in other words, spending minimal money on cheap, crappy players?

Want to get CF situated first.

Which is dumb.

Do other stuff, too.

If they wait too long, they'll miss out on everything.

I've started watching just about every Panthers game (unless I'm busy), and it's getting to where I care more what they're doing than the Marlins.

Let's hope the FO doesn't continue to be tone deaf and think they're good enough as-is.

If nothing else happens, all the Marlins have done since the lock-out is sign 4 players to minor league deals.   I'm more excited for football right now since the Jags went out and spent money and signed players

They really need another bat....

The Wendle and Stallings moves would be pointless if they do this half-assed.

One thing: even if they sign Castellanos, where the hell would he play? Isn't the only real move to get a CF? (or Correa but I'm a broken record at this point)

Just now, Michael said:

Probably RF or LF and Avi in center. 🙄

Oh true...
