In that case, what options are left?

- Trade (a ton of prospects) for Reynolds

- Pay the $$$ for Castellanos

- Sign Conforto (after his bases loaded HBP last season, meh)

- Trade with A's for Laureano (serving a suspension)

- Trade for a major league ready CF prospect

anything else?

You forgot do nothing. Sherman and Ng seem to prefer that one.

I think the Nick Neidert package would be more realistic for adding OF.

When Sherman said he was spending money, did he actually say he'd spend the money on adding good players or is he spending the money on pizza and beer?

I see your overall point, but to me, Reynolds and Mullins are legitimate, high quality hitters. Especially Reynolds.

I just think giving up an Eder/Salas in addition to Bleday/Meyer for Laureano is very...meh

Laureano has a 9.4 WAR in 1257 PA. That's basically a 4.7 WAR average for a full season. Yea PEDs, very volatile offensive approach, has been hurt here and there, 2020 was not great (but a low BABIP), etc., but he's also 27 and a very high floor defender. It's hard to think he isn't a 3 WAR guy playing defense and hitting 25 bombs. That's a floor. He has even a small offensive bump and watch out. He's better than meh, even if Reynolds is better. I'd rather have Laureano over Mullins for sure considering Laureano actually will be in CF longterm. Ketel is a toss up. Ketel can really hit which is needed, but he's a stopgap CF and we're back here next year. There would have to be an infield reconfiguration to fit him in. Reynolds, Laureano, or Brandon Marsh are the best ideas to me for a longterm fix. The short term one would be Kiermaier and find a platoon player versus lefties.

If you want that # 3 hitter, it's going for Soler and praying for 2019/2021-post all star rates. That's a crushing .925 OPS bat. If that's the real Soler and Laureano were to play to his career average, that's a really big upgrade.

Also, I think you don't give Meyer for Laureano. It's Burdick/Bleday, Eder/Salas, Lewis/Morisette/Cappe, and Fulton/McCambley sort of thing. Get Tony Kemp in the deal also, and chuck in someone else too if needed. Oakland is a mess so get them 4-5 really nice names and preserve your top 4 prospects. I think they'd do it.

Sigh. Was secretly hoping we'd sign Bryant. Oh well, another domino falls and the competition for remaining quality bats just got stiffer. He should mash in COL.

Sigh

So since we established you guys can’t throw vegetables to Asia….

Let me go on record saying I hope we sign Albert Almora. I know he can’t hit but he plays awesome defense and, most importantly, he is my cousin.😊

WELL THEN that'd be cool.

you forgot disappointment and cheap ass owners to the list

Center fielders Marlins should acquire IF serious about winning:

Bryan Reynolds

Ramon Laureano

Cedric Mullins

Brandon Marsh (though I'm less on him given his being unproven)

Absent acquiring any of these 4 this organization doesnt give a flying fuck about winning and just continue to play fucking lip service to fans.

Hey they tried!

The only alternative to the above is ponying up for Carlos Correa and then telling Jazz to go figure it out in CF, which I'm 100% ok with happening.

But you're a Cardinals fan, why do you care?

How do you let the rockies get him. It makes no sense. Give him third base for the rest of his career

Been hearing that for years and quite honestly, I'm sick of it.  There are no more excuses.  The moves they made pre-lockout are not enough.   If Sherman can't pony up money for FAs, then he shouldn't be a fucking owner... He has about 3 weeks to fix this

There's no way Castellanos decision depended on Derek Jeter being here.

You can take it how'd you'll like.

There's information missing after the Jansen thing...

What did Castellanos say next? If Jeter was here would Castellanos have agreed to the Jansen thing or did he flat out say no to that?

He would have agreed if the terms was what they had a handshake deal for. He and Jeter both felt thats not what was promised. Source said that was the final draw for Jeter, that's probably speculation on his part though.
