Who’s staying up to see who the fish sign 👀👀👀👀👀👀

Apparently not the Marlins.  LOL

I haven't been able to log on today, so here's my thoughts one today's comments....

Or that. Anything but a modern-day Saltalamacchia signing

But isn't that the big name we've been looking for?  LOL

Probably both, honestly. I think Ng is an intelligent person and knows how much someone's worth... I just think the priorities are not right. They are perpetually looking into the future - which I am for, but there needs to be incremental improvement.

My optimism was based on me thinking they actually were open to spending money. It looks like they aren't, which can lead to a series of terrible moves both on the trade and FA side.

They're going to miss out on Reynolds, then are going to sign Soler for more money than he's worth because they need someone. They'd be in a much better position of they had spent more on a Correa and shifted things around, or even a Castellanos as DH. This just screams Jeffrey Loria

Totally agree, I'm sliding more and more into the camp of "they're not going to do anything, and if they do, it'll be the usual overpay for scrap heap folks that don't move the needle".

The answer really is to pay whatever you have to for Correa, shift Jazz to CF and Miggy to 2B. Keep your prospects or buy one hell of a DH... or hell, get Castellanos as your DH.

You keep all or most of your prospects and make a mid-year acquisition. Your team will be good and as these guys live up to their potential, your team gets better or you can flip them for other pieces you need.

I'm on board with this.

I seriously applaud you for having hope left.  It feels all-too-similar to the usual waiting around hoping they can get someone good for cheap while everyone else signs with other clubs and then they're just going to tell us they feel good going into this season with their prospects, etc so the other actual proven MLBers were never really on the radar.  I really REALLY hope I'm wrong but a lot of people are being scooped up now and this lack of....anything...well it's really irritating.

Yup, like I said above, I'm sliding further and further into this camp, and what hope I did have is getting smaller and smaller.

Center fielders Marlins should acquire IF serious about winning:

Bryan Reynolds

Ramon Laureano

Cedric Mullins

Brandon Marsh (though I'm less on him given his being unproven)

Absent acquiring any of these 4 this organization doesnt give a flying fuck about winning and just continue to play fucking lip service to fans.

Hey they tried!

The only alternative to the above is ponying up for Carlos Correa and then telling Jazz to go figure it out in CF, which I'm 100% ok with happening.

Shocking, a Das post I agree with.  I think that's a first lol.

Sigh. Was secretly hoping we'd sign Bryant. Oh well, another domino falls and the competition for remaining quality bats just got stiffer. He should mash in COL.

I agree I was hoping that too - he was a guy that you don't have to commit Correa money to which put him closer to our limited budget.

Enough is enough, I just can't let baseball continue to damage my life, not worth it.

You're the only one letting it.  Relax.  We're all frustrated, but you seem to take it to the millionth degree.

That's not exactly the same scenario. It's hometown but there's no money concerns with the Dodgers. I mean how much a discount did Freeman really take is my point. It's not like the Dodgers lowballed him.

What other teams besides the Marlins have been linked to Nick?

I know the Phillies were, but I am assuming Schwarber took them out of that race.

That's a good point too, the Marlins market is shrinking but so is Nick's options.

With that said what would Jeter say if we signed Castellanos and he left for nothing? lol

I honestly expected Sherman to pounce and sign Castellanos in part to prove Jeter wrong. I know that's a lot of money just to prove someone wrong, but I was assuming there was legit interest in him anyway. And maybe there still is, who knows.

With the options dwindling and Nick still out there you'd think Sherman at least is considering it.

I’m beginning to wonder if they’re waiting on the FA market to materialize before making a trade. It seems as if they’re trying to double dip with a corner OF + CF trade. Makes me feel like Laureano ends up being the CF paired with a Cast (unlikely), Conforto, etc

Certainly seems like they're waiting for something.

I guess they're trying to play chicken?  With both FA targets and trade targets?

The problem is, it's not a direct game of chicken.  There are other players that can jump in and take them and we get nothing.
