And If they get nobody what then?

Well they tried?

Sure.

But that wasn't the question I responded to.

Damn you guys are ridiculous...

You and Polly: "Marlins think De La Cruz is the answer in CF"

Me and everyone else: "No they don't because they're still looking"

You: "What if they don't get anyone?"

Whether or not they get anyone wasn't what you guys asked. You asked if they thought De La Cruz was the CF... they do not. Stop changing the questions.

I whole heartedly do think they think he is the answer in CF fwiw

They're looking for a CF, nothing says they're settling on De La Cruz right now.

We Got Him GIF

Absolute waste of money based on his career numbers, age, etc.  It's like they were told to sign someone for around 12-14 per and this was the best they could find who was willing to take a deal.  Would have rather paid Marte that same amount over 3 years than signed Garcia.  Just ignorant fucking shit that will now limit their ability to bring in someone who will actually help at a position of need.

Defensively, I definitely think he is.  If he could replicate what he did at the plate last season into a full season, then we might really have something.

His sept numbers are what he is as a hitter

I don't want to believe it but I feel that's accurate.  He should be ok as 4th OF type of guy who can start for a few stretches here and there if need be but yeah, he really regressed quickly. I like him a lot better than Brinson as a 4th OF type so that's something.  He has no business being an every day CF though imo.

Agreed!

-4 years???? I'm shocked they'd go this long. That's what you offer to someone to lock up a starting role for the foreseeable future. I don't see this guy as any sure bet after year two, if not after year one alone. I really hope the Marlins don't portray this as a longterm All Star signing.

I generally agree with the rest of your post, but on this point...we keep saying how they need to be willing to overpay to show they're serious, so I don't think it's fair then criticize them for possibly doing that. But of course I think we all assume they actually have a (relatively) small budget, in which case inefficient use of funds would of course be an issue. This move is a sigh/shrug for me. For $6M more per year, you get Marte. Although you can look at it like Garcia cost 50% more than Marte, which makes it sound like a significant gap.

Eh, I think you over spend on a "THE" guy, not on a mid-level guy.

I agree I just saw Garcia as a 1 or 2 year guy, not a 4 year guy. I think he's a bench bat in 2024 if not in 2023.

Well, from the looks of it he'll probably be a bench bat next year, and every other year going forward

Correct. Should’ve “overspent” elsewhere but whatever it is what it is. As long as there is more to come.
