Jazz is still on the team and if healthy is definitely a plus bat. The lineup itself does have useful parts but the problem is that when Kim built this roster she tried to make all the parts largely the same and there's no real balance to it.

Reynolds and Conforto would go a long long way to at least making the team watchable - especially if they somehow didn't trade Pablo for Reynolds.

Yeah I 100% believe he won't be as bad again. I also believe that Jeter sold him a lie to come here and he was pissed off all season long and bolstering the lineup would likely help more fully realize that promise and possibly change his attitude.  I'm sure we've all worked for someplace or someone who hyped up the job and then failed to deliver and we just lost all motivation at work. Some dudes let things get to them more than others and maybe Avi is one of those guys. Shrug

Avi was never supposed to be the one big addition alone. And we know Soler was a late pivot when they couldn't get others and felt they had to get someone along with proving they could still spend some money. 

Avi + Soler was not the original plan for 2022.

I thought he did too. I dunno if it was Jeter who preferred Avi over Marte but man when we saw Avi get the money that Marte had literally asked for prior to being courted by the Mutts....I remember being effing livid. Marte had also proven he could actually HIT here too AND was vocal about wanting to stay with Miami - both of which are really freaking rare. That was a total no-brainer move to re-sign him immediately.

Couple that with we would have had our cake and eaten it too by having gotten Luzardo from trading him, AND re-signed him.

Cohen would gives Realmuto and Marte what they want “in a heartbeat ”, but sadly it's Sherman's money.

So my comment was that in general the state of the team is one in which they’re better off spreading the wealth and fielding a team with 5 average but dependable players in their lineup than 1 REALLY good player because they’re not “one bat” away. With that said, I think someone like Soler has a place in the lineup since he’s a high slugging outfielder who might strike out quite a bit, but can break games open with a 3 run HR assuming he has guys around him that can get on base. So I would say’s he’s one of the 5 I’d have been fine building this years lineup around. With Soler manning one of the corner spots, I’d have signed J.D. Martinez to DH because he is an on base machine who will still hit in the .300 range which the team desperately needs. Then I would have signed Benintendi to play center since he is also a high contact “slap” hitter who would benefit greatly from the big gaps at Marlins park, then I’d work out a trade for Josh Donaldson and Oswaldo Cabrera of the Yankees. That gives you your shortstop to throw in there with Jazz up the middle in Cabrera. Yankees want Donaldson’s money off the books for Luxury Tax purposes so your acratching their back a bit there plus he would be a free agent in 2024 at which point you sign a long term 3B or move Cabrera to 3B and find a shortstop on the FA market. Those are 5 that I’d be good with. Not the only options, but good options nonetheless
