This off-season is probably one of the most pathetic I’ve seen, especially considering where they finished.

Justin Turner agrees to sign with Red Sox.  I'm sort of glad he didn't sign here.  That would have been their one big move when in reality, it's not.

I think we're the only team that has not signed a single MLB FA. Even the Pirates and A's have signed a few, and those teams aren't pretending to win.

I've never said I was hopeful but I really thought that Kim would finally show more urgency because she "has to." After two failed seasons (and offseasons) her contract is coming up after this season. She doesn't want to fail at this job. Why would she want that? I refuse to believe the silliness that she is ok with failing at this.

So she "has to" try something different.

If a baby can't get the square block in the round hole at first they keep trying until eventually it clicks and they have to try a new hole right? That's the mentality I see here! 

And I do believe she is trying!

But I'm not blind to the results thus far. So what is it?

Early in the offseason that doesn't mean much but at this point I guarantee you that free agents notice we haven't signed anyone so why would anyone want to be the first when it's clear that this team has no fucking clue how to put together a winner? 

Mish says they offered Turner "a lot" so we go back to just not being a preferred destination, and rightfully so. 

And about overpaying Mish says Sherman ok'd an overpay for Avi and Avi took it but that doesn't mean every player will.

Avi lives in Miami and was wooed at a dinner with Jeter (and was told more additions were coming after he signed!) so I can see why Avi took it. 

But the majority of free agents have multiple options to pick from and the Marlins are just not ever gonna be a destination that free agents are gonna flock to.

Also, and nobody wants to hear it cuz it sucks but Avi and Soler failing so much is gonna make Sherman more skeptical of "stupidly" overpaying. Sherman might be OK with fair and competitive free agent offers but this guy is now gonna run away from trying to blow anyone out of the water.

Nobody wants to play here, even for more money. 

That part isn't Kim's fault.

Now she has to focus on trades. There's "time" to get that done but she's gotta get on it and even then she's gotta do some serious maneuvering to get this team competitive through trades alone by the end of the offseason. 

It would be pretty much a miracle if Kim could pull the nose up on this tailspin in time for Opening Day. 

I don't think she can do it. 

Damn I just had a thought... what If Kim resigned at some point this season to try and save some face, admitting her failures and making it look like her call to move on. She'd make herself out to be someone with the pride and respect to admit their mistakes and she'd also save the organization the bad publicity from firing her?

Mish wasn't wrong about the Marlins offer though, Speier was wrong about the Sox offer and Mish was responding to that.

Avi's contract wasn't much of an overpay, if at all, at the time - he just had his worst ever season by a mile. You have to wonder how much of it was mental because he likely felt lied to by the Marlins who assured others would come (and that Jeter flat out left). 

Most people don't quit their job - they quit because of management. 

So now I'm reduced to defending both Loria and Avi this offseason. Gross
