Why would she? I think her job is safe, I think she is more likely to get an extension than get fired. I doubt she would just walk away from one of 30 GM jobs after trying to get one for so long. She'd be unlikely to ever get another if she resigned.

Bruce Sherman is going to come out and say, hey we tried to offer x, y, z contracts but they just wouldnt take our offers.

 

When the offers were not better than any other offer on the table.  If this franchise wants a top free agent they are going to have to overpay for the first couple/few, largely because of the perception of the organization, i.e. sins of the father (and now the son basically too)

 

Like I've been saying since this joke of an ownership group took over.

The Garcia contract in and of itself isnt really that bad in this day and age, he is just not a good player and its a failure of the leadership at the time of that contract to truly do their homework on him.  I saw him not being good coming a mile away and I dont have access to all the  advanced analysis.

I think her boss isn't demanding much of her, has given her a lousy blueprint and budget, and she's being a good soldier. That's why this offseason will be a failure, and that's also why she's going to get extended.

I'm pretty sure almost nobody on this board was excited when he signed. None of us really thought he was very good. His career "norms" have largely been enhanced by having a really good season once every four years or so - similar to how Soler's stats are skewed by his one mega season.

Almost everyone here thought it was a stupid signing.

Anyone with eyes should have known he is a god awful baseball player and always has been

I've never said I was hopeful but I really thought that Kim would finally show more urgency because she "has to." And about overpaying Mish says Sherman ok'd an overpay for Avi and Avi took it but that doesn't mean every player will.

Avi lives in Miami and was wooed at a dinner with Jeter (and was told more additions were coming after he signed!) so I can see why Avi took it. 

But the majority of free agents have multiple options to pick from and the Marlins are just not ever gonna be a destination that free agents are gonna flock to.

Also, and nobody wants to hear it cuz it sucks but Avi and Soler failing so much is gonna make Sherman more skeptical of "stupidly" overpaying. Sherman might be OK with fair and competitive free agent offers but this guy is now gonna run away from trying to blow anyone out of the water. 

It's sad that's who they asked to overpay for.

That part isn't Kim's fault.

Now she has to focus on trades. There's "time" to get that done but she's gotta get on it and even then she's gotta do some serious maneuvering to get this team competitive through trades alone by the end of the offseason. 

It would be pretty much a miracle if Kim could pull the nose up on this tailspin in time for Opening Day.

 Sure, it takes two to tango, but she can't be absolved of all blame, though.  Yes, there's the organizational history that isn't her fault, so she can't be held accountable for that.....but she definitely is responsible for:

1) the complete incompetence of managing (or rather not managing) a roster in-season (we saw this year 1, which I could give a pass early on BUT it continued year 2)

2a) flat out refusing to make trades that could help us

2b) apparently not even bothering to contact other teams or FAs and letting them call her (obviously she does call, but the point is no sense of urgency)

3) having completely incorrect stats on players she signed......or even if Jeter & co pushed for those signings, she looks like a moron when she blurts out how a guy that has literally NEVER once hit 30 hr in a season, has "multiple 30-hr seasons"

4) rumored to be fully in on ONE free agent the entire offseason.  ONE.....I'm not counting the "we're interested in player X.....which means we offered $5.00"

 

and that all turns into an image of ZERO sense of urgency to improve the team that has been terrible for years now.

Players see that.  Why would they be eager to sign here if not for a ridiculous overpay, which we clearly aren't offering?

Until they initially overpay for everyone, make meaningful trades/efforts to improve, retain players for all or most of their contracts (shedding the Loria image), and have success overall, it's going to be hard to entice players to come here.

They'll have to overpay for a few years until things improve, and THEN it'll become more of a destination players want to come to.

Every year I say we should sign a vet innings eater.  We don't and then 2/5 of the rotation gets injured and we implode.  Why there's an expectation of complete health all season I won't understand.

But I'd also argue we don't have a choice anymore.  SOMETHING needs to be done, not just trotting the same team out and expecting to contend.

Honestly the roof should probably be open more often. Let it heat up a bit and really only close it on more extreme heat days or when it's raining.

That was probably Kim's biggest failing as a GM during her tenure here - having loads of prospects ranked fairly high and refusing to make the necessary trade to improve the big club. Now that the prospects have shown their ass - well - I guess they have Eury left? Good luck getting her to part with him.
