Curious on which CF you refer to for Arizona - Alek Thomas? Would be nice, can't imagine Arizona parts ways with him that easily, unless we throw in someone quite good out of those prospects. Even with taking Bumgarner's salary. Although, freeing up $37M for Arizona over the next two years and maybe turning Bum into something OK down here ... that might could work. Send it in.

Rosario = Amed Rosario, Cleveland?

If we trade Wendle and Anderson, are we going Berti full time at third base? Rosario going there? Is Miguel Rojas still in the plans in this scenario?

Any of them. Carroll? Throw in Eury. Thomas? Float Salas/Cappe and a really good pitcher not named Pablo/Luzardo/Cabrera/Rogers/Eury. McCarthy? Some sort of prospect or even maybe Garrett. Plenty of options here. I assume Varsho isn't even worth it with his catching potential. I am open to ANYONE here depending on reasonable and fair trade prices. These teams match up well here IMO.

Yes A. Rosario. He has a year on his contract left and they have middle infield options. Pablo moves the needle big time for them IMO and they have tons of depth to add to Rosario to make it worth. Nolan Jones and Marlins kick in something also? Rosario is a great extension candidate at 27 years old also. High floor with the contact rates.

This is $110m from what I was saying above:

Fortes, Stallings
RIZZO, Cooper (primary DH)
Jazz
ROSARIO, Wendle/Rojas (other traded)
Berti, Groshans/LeBlanc (other AAA)
Sanchez/Bleday, DLC/Burdick/Jerar (others AAA)
ARIZONA CF
Garcia
Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, BUMGARNER, Rogers, Garrett (Eury/Eder AAA)
E. DIAZ, Floro, "DUDE FOR WENDLE/ROJAS", Sixto/Neidert/Nance (others AAA)
Scott, Bleier, Okert

A lot of expiring contracts as mentioned, and arbitration raises absent Jazz won't be insane so payroll would consistently be at this level for 3 years doing nothing.

It's a happy medium to showing some real spending, and not dropping the Correa or even Swanson bomb on top of this.

I'm not sure if they go to $110m, but this is a path to get there with a pretty decent team on paper and not decimate 2026 and beyond payroll. I think that later is important. Don't clog the books because Bruce is cheap. But maybe he won't be cheap for 2 year run before an opportunity to burn it down.

The Marlins aren't signing Edwin Diaz  or Rizzo or anyone else that makes complete sense

Edwin Diaz would be a bad idea. He's going to land a huge multi-year deal and those hardly ever work out for relievers.

But ... but Narco!

Anyways, yeah. I wouldn't mind it in an attempt to show the team's going for it, but no more than 3 years.

No thanks. Edwin Diaz has "Heath Bell" written all over him (except he'll command much more than the 3/27 Bell got). I know he was great this season, but Mets fans despised him up until 2022 (which just so happened to be a contract year).

It's fine, we're going to be throwing so much money around this offseason anyways signing Judge, Correa, and Turner, so what's one more?

I mean other than being 4 years younger, in better shape and a better track record, ya he is just like Heath Bell.

And Diaz has two plus pitches rather than one OK pitch like Bell.

sure that as well, which ties into a longer record of success.

Likely, but it's more about finding impact without giving out a 6+ year contract. Maybe someone is crazy and gives him 5 years, but I doubt it. Likewise he may make half annually versus a Correa and maybe $5-10 less than a Nimmo. They just need to explore all opportunities to improve of course, and if they figure out the rest of the team cheap, he may make sense. He has a 5.9 WAR his last 150 IP. Sandy had 5.7 this year in 228 IP. It's hard to deny his impact and a team like the Marlins is going to have to roll the dice on someone as there is no chance Bruce greenlights a budget to get them to a complete team day 1. Hence, the Jayson Werth contract, but with Edwin, its only over 3-4 years not 7. As we saw with Hader, you can trade these guys down the road. We'll see what they do. I am expecting more "Stallings and Wendles and Scotts" but maybe they surprise.

Nice things being said about DLC - https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/its-never-too-early-for-more-2023-sleepers/. This would be quite the success story from being a bottom 15ish overall player in baseball August 10th to a viable starter/platoon option next year. What magician of a hitting coach is in AAA?

Regardless, this is screaming to me they will open with a Sanchez/Bleday and DLC platoon in LF for the low price of $1.45m dollars combined, and both will have ample opportunities to pathways to 500+ PA if they can do it. Frankly, it's a fine set up as long as they get a real CF and presumably longterm SS upgrade.

Are you going to admit, especially for the price, that DLC is better than Soler yet?

Sure I'll take DLC and $13.5 million free agency dollars next year over Soler (and we'll ignore the extra $9m for 2024). In fact let's just say keep Cooper and sign Joc and call it DLC/Cooper/Joc versus Soler for the same dollars. Sounds great. Of course it's 3 roster spots, but I assume something like DLC/Cooper/Joc is going to out play Soler/Lewin/Burdick. I think most would take that bet versus hoping for the 2019/post-2021 version of Soler. What could be.

However, I think this is a peculiar way of phrasing this comment since I was never a fan of the Soler signing given the ad nauseam commentary of triple 1B/DH types and no CF on the roster. It's like if I asked, are you going to admit that they made the right decision signing Soler instead of Castellenos and Jeter was wrong? What's the point here? These are dumb observations. Ultimately, DLC had been absolutely terrible for long stretches of his career (.3 WAR the first 477 PA of his career - replacement level with a realistic .312 BABIP), but credit to him for maybe figuring it out with whatever houdini found a swing tweak toe tap for him (1.4 WAR his final 94 PA). Those last 94 PA come with a .443 BABIP which is concerning unsustainable SSS, but he was hitting for a not outrageous average with it .388 (with some bombs), so there is some optimism he can in fact hit .270 when that drops 100+ points with his hard hit profile and above average foot speed. That basically may level out to his career line (with maybe more slugging?), which is pretty alright and frankly, would be great if this swing tweak alone makes him a player. I mean, good for him if that happens as what a world of change. April is going to be a big month for him.

Just posting an article here that there may have been a real quiet positive development and I think this is suggestive they'll be more apt to move on from Anderson (won't need OF time) and stick with a Berti/Groshans/backup SS (probably Wendle with Rojas getting moved) platoon at 3B and trust their internal guys to be OF 2(Garcia) - 3/4(Sanchez/DLC) -5(Berti) -6(Soler) -AAA(Bleday/Burdick/Jerar/Leblanc(?)). Basically, makes selling out whatever assets Bruce allows them to use for a CF and SS easier on paper.

Really curious, money isn't an issue....

Whats the best lineup money can buy this offseason? Is there really anything worth it? Perfect world, they go after one of these SS who get left without a chair in musical chairs, and go after Soto too IF he ever becomes a FA. Only way I can see this team adding any legitimacy.

If money isn't an issue, then

JUDGE

TURNER

CORREA

If the Marlins are serious, they should sign either Correa or Turner. No bullshit about not being able to afford it.

Turner is literally the epitome of what they need in the type of lineup they should be building especially with the rule changes. There is not a more perfect fit. Maybe Ocampo can tell Kim that Trea hits 70 hrs a year.

Why are we stopping there if money isn't an issue?

Add Rizzo, E. Diaz, and Nimmo to that and you're STILL $10m away from the Mets 2022 payroll.

Fortes, Stallings
Rizzo
Jazz, Berti
Turner, Wendle
Correa
Garcia, DLC
Nimmo
Judge, Soler
Sandy, Pablo, Luzardo, Cabrera, Rogers, Garrett
E. Diaz, Floro, and they'll have to slum with trade returns for Cooper/Rojas here with Nance/Sixto/Neidert*
Bleier, Scott, Okert
*Or trade Salas/Cappe and J. Sanchez for Bednar or other studs as this is clearly a win now scenario

Easy 50+ WAR team with 60+ WAR upside. Would be top 3 on paper no doubt. With arguably the # 1 prospect in baseball coming midseason.

Yes, but the problem is he will be 37-38-39 the last years of his expected contract. He's not a basher or even a high OBP machine like a Votto/Cabrera where you can arguably project them to be pretty good into their late 30s. He will likely be very good for the first 4-5 years of his deal which is what you are buying, but I think there is some real fear he could turn into Carl Crawford pretty quickly. He dropped out of nowhere.

Just saying here, if they were to spend, it's Correa for me. Effectively two years younger, should hit for way more power, walks more, also amazing defensively, etc. etc. He's the one if they do it. Don't get me wrong, signing Turner would be awesome and I'd welcome it. I don't disagree he's going to be a force with the new bases, but I am fearful of what a 35 year old Turner is doing versus a 33 year old Correa seven years into that deal. We can dream.

Do you really think that a lineup w Judge can win? He's probably going to get an insane amount and never get close to 62 again.

As much as everyone shits on Stantons injury history- I'd rather have Stanton as a DH in Miami over Judge.

God I wish the Yankees need to clear some payroll and send Stanton back to us.

I think TURNER, SWANSON, ABREU, RIZZO would be money better well spent... and a trade for Stanton and some money. I think those four would add legitimacy, hurt their competition AND provide some leadership in Rizzo and Abreu.

You want two first basemen?

I guess Abreu would DH, that's fair.

Yeah, I think they can swap the two 1B back and forth. One is better defensively than the other, one will need days off. Ideally, Abreu takes part in 145 games, rizzo in about 125-130. Should open the door for other players to cycle into the DH spot 10-15 times a season for a "break". Both combined would fill two holes in the lineup, AND come cheaper than a single splashy signing.

I think-

2B- Jazz
LF/DH- Stanton
3B- Turner
SS-Swanson (IDK, maybe turner is the better SS?)
LF/DH Abreu
1B- Rizzo
RF Bleday
CF Wendle , Sanchez or DLC
C-Stallings

Bench:  Rojas, Anderson, Fortes, Wendle, DLC or Sanchez

Not a very well constructed lineup or roster, but way better than what were expected to see in real life.
