My argument at the time was that it really wouldn't hurt to have the arbitrators decide how much money he would receive. Instead of senselessly throwing cash at him, the Marlins could have been placed in a favorable situation where they could have saved money or would not have lost anything if ruled against their favor. It angers me that the Marlins threw away money at poor talent like Olivo and Julio and rewarded BK's good performance by shipping him off to save money. Like I said before, don't feel bad for Kim. He's with his old club and in a pennant race. And while we didn't receive any one back, we saved some money, opened up some innings for developing players and showed the franchise treats players right (which, believe it or not, includes doing things besides simply paying them) There seems to be the conclusion that the "secret" deal allowed Arizona to pick up Kim. What if Tampa Bay claimed Kim? Would we have pulled him off waivers to treat him right or still let him go and what would that have showed about our franchise. I just do not see management being all that warm and fuzzy regarding doing Kim a big favor.

Just had to put my 2 cents in. As a NONLATIN, I also take offense to any statement slighting S Florida based on ignorance of people or places. I have posted about the stadium in Hialeah in the past and feel that it would be a very, very strong sight if the plans that were proposed for it were real. A clean plot of land developed into an entertainment complex could be very successful. Sawgrass MALL is a destination, can you believe it, a destination for travelers on cruise ships etc, even listed as an excursion. Who would have thought that when it was proposed. The Hialeah location is so much better for the fan base for three counties, there is the turnpike, I-75, the Palmetto and the Sawgrass xpressway leading into that area. And what problem could anyone have with the people of Hialeah unless one is truly a jerk. These are hard working people who do not deserve to be insulted by anyone. Sure, there are benefits of a downtown stadium, given the built in population of the workforce in place which could make a big difference for all those weeknight games, as well as the afternoon businessman specials. Based on some of the observations about crime previously posted, Yankee stadium in the Bronx should have been blown up and given up for years ago. And the Orange Bowl location, well, I have been going there for many years, I do not have any concerns about my safety. It still comes down to getting the stadium built wherever it can get built. WE HAVE NOTHING RIGHT NOW. So hard to see how a forum for baseball conversation and stadium talk ends up being exploited by some people as a basis for spouting their hatred of people who are not like them.

It isn't about the $800K, or at least not just about the $800K, it is about moving up some potential 2008 starting pitchers. This team was snakebit this season, lets try to make 2008 viable rather than hang on to the middling talent veteran that will not be back. Most of what you say is true. But it not being about the $800K, maybe with some other team, with Loria and Samson, I put my money on it was about the dough. Add another $800K to the bottom line and maybe they can match last years leading profit team in the majors. After all, with the higher payroll this year the revenue sharing went down a bit. Look, Loria gave his half ass effort for 2 years, (let's all say "wow, way to go") and maybe he really is about baseball, but now he has gotten used to being mediocre but the bank account tells him that is much better than winning. today on evan's show on espn radio 760 (4-7 pm), he described dontrelle as a bad pitcher..... evan went as far as saying the marlins are irrevelant here in south florida and he would talk more yankees, mets and red sox on the show. Evan is pretty irrelevant also and if he wants to be a mini Sid Rosenberg-fine-I won't listen to him just like I don't listen to Sid. Just for a bit of unofficial inside info......Olsen went to CLS up here in his high school days and I had a friend that was an underclassmen when he was the star baller as a junior and senior. Basically, to make a long story short, Olsen is actually not a bad guy. The problem is he's about as cocky a mother f***er as you'll ever find and has a bad temper, which to say the least is a bad combo. He has all the talent in the world, but the Marlins need to somehow find somebody that can calm him down, but unfortunately I think he might be more of a change of scenery guy that will be good somewhere else, and that's not the Marlins fault at all. I hope I'm wrong though, nice to see the local kids do well, and I still do like the Marlins. In my opinion his continued confrontations with teammates combined with his behavior in Milwaukee and his abusive behavior towards the clubhouse attendant and the never ending whining about the Phillies every time they kick his ass makes him a major a**hole. I also disagree with the notion that he has all the talent in the world. That's fine if you think he's an a-hole, but if you watched him last year and don't think he's extremely talented, you must have been getting bad reception on your T.V. or something. Last year's success, limited success at that, was because hitters were fooled by his slider, they couldn't pick it up. That's no longer the case and he's getting murdered. Johan Santana has all the talent in the world. Smoltz, Beckett etc etc. Scott Olsen has ability and talent, but nothing that as yet translates into "all the talent in the world".

I really think that repeat candidates are hurt by their past performances these days. It's one reason why John Kerry decided not to run, even though he won the 04 nomination. Miami City manager was on with Joe Rose this morning. He said theyve basically got the money right now to get reconvations done on the OB if that is the path UM decides to take. Said that the big holdup that is most annoying is the time UM is taking to make any sort of decision. Other tidbits: - No matter what the decision, when FIU and UM are done with the OB this season, he wants work being done Dec 1st, whether its renovations beginning or demolition. - The ideal is for UM and the Fish to both be at the Orange Bowl site - Funding for the Fish stadium deal could definitely get done and he believes they can do it as long as the Marlins hold up their end of the deal - The county commissioners are behind the OB site but most are against the downtown location. Sorry to reply to myself, but this is what I found interesting.... He seemed to slip this in at the very end of the interview to imply that hes not so sure the Marlins can be trusted to do what they say they are willing to do. Sort of read into it what I feel is the m.o. of this group. Like my post said "And quietly, Loria and Samson is probably going to blow up any decision that is made anyway."

If this team really has any chance this year, they must make a statement in this next homestand. We play WAS, STL, and CIN in a span of 10 games. The Marlins have played so bad at home, which befuddles me, as we have historically been a pretty good home team. We must go at least 7-3. Are my demands too high? No, it was not Arriola. Joe played his angry clip from last week a few times just before he got Pedro on. He said the best option if UM were to stick with the OB would be a $170 million renovation that focuses on only one side of the stadium.... He said either way, it would be hard for him to back such a plan for a stadium that will only hold 6 or 7 games a year. He added that it would be his ideal (he used the word ideal a few too many times) to have the stadium downtown (a camden yards type would fit in the location) but he said that seems unlikely and most would only back the OB site. Isn't this just great!! MLB and the Marlins want a downtown stadium. The city (and county?) wants it at the OB site. The city wants to fix up one side of the OB-maybe even put in a new HD scoreboard that only works on half the screen and the other half can be the old light bulb dots scoreboard there now. The sound system can be monophonic since there is no need for stereo on the unrenovated side. New bathrooms, concessions on the south side while the north side will still reek with drippings from the pipes, almost like the border of a modern country next to a 3rd world country. And all of this on hold and the UM can't decide, or won't decide yet what they want to do. They keep listening to the opinions of the big contributors, who are important, but no less than the rest of us who have had cane tix for decades and make modest contributions. In the meantime, who knows what Wayne is thinking. Someone should be able to come up with a musical score for this soap opera.
