They would call us sellers even if we were in 1st place. The rep sticks with a team no matter its circumstances. I am surprised they even knew we had a new stadium being built. I was on a national forum the other day and said something about the new stadium and most of the folks there called me a liar and said there was no stadium being built, that I was dreaming. Well if you go down there and see it in person (I had to go to a Dr's appointment at UM Medical Center the other day) and I went by it. That is the biggest and most real dream I have ever had :lol

I would have hated to trade Cody, but if someone had been giving up a can't miss I would have been for it too. But barring that, I'm glad "CODY, CODY, CODY" will still be part of the Marlins family for at least through the deadline. People forget, there are trades made in August too. The trading deadline is not an impregnable wall, and things still can happen for the next couple of weeks.

I am a Miami native, and growing up in the 1960's baseball was seen by me very rarely. By the 1970's we saw Saturday afternoon on NBC, the occasional Braves game on the old Channel 7 (WCKT days) - I think it was mostly Wednesday night games. I also was a big U of Miami baseball fan and as a family we started going to their games in the late 1970's just as I enrolled and became a Hurricane myself. The seminal moment came in 1981 when we finally subscribed to cable TV and started getting the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs and NY Mets games on a regular basis. I followed the Braves 1st because of Horner & Murphy, then the Mets because of Strawberry and finally the Cubs because of the Hawk, Ryno and Mark Grace. When Huizenga gave us those spring training games with Baltimore vs (??) and they drew over 60,000 for each of them, I was sure he would put in for a franchise and he did. I immediately dropped any allegiance I had to the Cubs for the Marlins. I watched that 1st game in 1993, and have probably watched at least 80% of the games the Marlins have ever played. Baseball is great and Marlins baseball is the BEST !

True. Although most were somewhat confused by this move because they didn't consider the Angels legit contenders even though the Angels themselves seemed to. I think sometimes the big town teams make moves just to do something, to make the season ticket fans happy. It makes it look like the team is trying.

As i live in England and theres very little coverage i wondered if mlb tv would be worth the cash for next season. I know its a long time away but i wanted to get nfl game pass but the price for the is beyond pathetic. I love baseball and was just wondering is it worth the cash even just for a month or 2. Without a doubt. You get not only home & away TV telecasts but also the home & away radio broadcasts to choose from. And its all 2,400 games of the season ! Best buy on the net, and I have had it for 4 years now and the video quality is better each year.

I won't miss you. thats really quite thickheaded. he came as a minor league free agent invited to spring training and gave 2 great years before this one and just because he has had a couple of bad months you are really trashing his entire time here. jorge was a class act on and off the field and he will be missed. This isn't really worth a debate. It's like debating between diahrrea and constipation. Our real 3B (Coghlan) is injured; whoever fills in for him (be it Bonifaciout, Murphy, Hector Moon, or Aunty Wes) is going to be a below average 3B. I could care less, really. The team is not really in contention, and I just wanted to get rid of Cantu, already. The positive to take out of the situation if you're still interested in this year is that no matter who takes over the 3B position...he'll be better than Cantu, defensively. Now c'mon Mr Wad-in-the-pants, don't be so glum. :no This could be the spark that we need to get us going and into the playoffs ! :thumbup :cheers

Nope don't sell. Although trading cantu and helms I wouldn't mind. Close exciting game, honestly need a split and go on a tear to make playoffs. I still believe. Team should have another 81+ season if no playoffs. And sign Uggla! ^^^^ All this !!!! I believe and tonight makes me believe even more. We were down and out - dead - yet we made a comeback from the dead and almost won. Guys this season is not lost, we will make a push and get a playoff spot ! BELIEVE !

If Loria keeps the payroll this low, with a new stadium, how can we ever expect to compete ? Marlins to not increase payroll much at new stadium I was expecting the payroll to at least increase to middle of the pack but this would mean we will still be a bottom 5 in payroll. Will MLB and MLBPA allow this ?

It has nothing to do with championship titles. No one can compare the support the Rockies get compared to what the Marlins get. The last couple of years the support for the Rockies has been up & down, just as it is in Arizona. The Pirates have horrible attendance IN A NEW STADIUM and yet no one takes pot-shots at them. Oakland attendance sucks as bad as the Marlins, unless they are playing Boston, the White Sox or Yankees, and no one rags on their attendance. People just seem to want to hate the Marlins for beating the Cubs in 2003, because that was supposed to be "their year". It started then, and its remained the focal point for their snideness and anger at the Marlins.

So Cantu goes and Coghlan moves to 3B? For the love of god yes. Anything to get Coghlan out of the outfield. And if Dominguez beats him out in a year or two, you can reevaluate what you want to do at 3B. Or, just keep Uggla through 2011, net your two first round draft picks for class A consideration, and shift Coghlan over to 2B. It's easy. The Marlins just need to commit to the "youth" movement and call up Morrison and Maybin (when healthy), and in September the lefty trio of West, Miller, and Jennings. It's not rebuilding, it's reloading with these guys. I like your idea a lot. :thumbup

Not for nothing, I like the pullover jacket thing just cause its simple black with a couple teal stripes. the rest is pretty darn affliction-ish He actually had the jacket on after the Marlins/Nats ST game in Viera. I thought it was cool at the time, and I might pick it up (price isn't too bad for a jacket). The only other shirt I would wear is the black one w/ the white pinstripes at the bottom- not going to pay $40 for a t-shirt, though. I was ready to buy one of the black t-shirts for $ 17.99. Then I got to the shipping and they wanted to charge me $ 9.32 to ship a freakin' t-shirt. WTF ? :blink: I backed out of the order when I saw that. $ 3 or maybe even $ 5 but not over $ 9 for a t-shirt. :censored

I also agree it's silly for Broward fans to be alienated about the name change; they've supported the team so much through the years and just because it's further south they're not going to support them at all anymore? While I originally was upset about the idea of changing to the Miami Marlins simply because I bought into the whole "first MLB team in Florida belonging to all of Florida" concept hook line and sinker, since Miami-Dade is ponying up the majority of the cash here (well, actually the tourists are), then so be it. In addition, they're no longer the only team in the state, so there's less reason to keep it. Note, though, that the name change was not just included in this round of stadium deals; the proposal was in the original package the team was trying to put together w/ the state back under Henry in the early 2000's. I remember writing to my district's State Congressman and Senator that while I was an ardent Marlins fan and supported the idea of state sales tax breaks and additional funding to build the stadium, I did not support that particular bill that was being debated because it included a change to the Miami Marlins. I felt that it was disengenuous to ask for so much State support and then take the State's name out of it. I don't rember if it was the Rep or the Senator that wrote back, but they said they agreed with me and were going to introduce an ammendment to stipulate if the team received any State funds, the team name had to remain the Florida Marlins. Of course, that session ended before debate and additional ammendments could be raised, and by the time the bill came up for debate again, he was no longer in office. Still don't understand why this didn't get passed. Every other professional sports team in the state but the Marlins gets the Sales Tax exemption, and you would think with the Republican-controlled Legislature, they'd be all over tax cuts. Well last time I checked, Broward fans are a lot closer to Sun Life Stadium than most of the Dade population. Broward folks have had their chance to support the Marlins and I think have done a rather poor job as of late. As for your last point, Huizenga asked for and got a $ 60 million tax break in 1992 to refit Sun Life Stadium to allow baseball to be played in a previously football/soccer only stadium. Only about half that tax break was used from what I understood at the time, but I think it was thought by most legislators that the Marlins already had gotten their break, and that they didn't want to give it again to the franchise, even though it really wasn't given directly to the franchise but to Huizenga. This is what I remember hearing the argument by Tallahassee was against giving it again to the Marlins.

Guys, McKeon isn't coming back. Seems like a lot of members here need to accept this fact. Yeah he is 80 or close to it. He doesn't need that aggrevation. He and his wife live very quietly in North Carolina and see their grandchildren 2 or 3 times a week. I think he comes down to see the team a few times a year, and spends spring training with them, but that's all he wants to do these days......its called being retired
