  1. A reliever or 2 definitely have to be added. Serio Romo, Bud Norris, Adam Warren, and Ryan Madson make sense. Perhaps even taking a flier on AJ Ramos on a minor league deal. Also, with Brinson, Dean, Cooper, Sierra, and Granderson, and Rosell Herrera the only OFs in camp with MLB experience (not counting Anderson), I would think signing another OF to at least a minor league deal would be wise. There are still a bunch of useful OF out there and the Marlins should have some money to spend. Adam Jones, CarGo, Span, Parra, and Melky Cabrera all make sense.
  2. Bit of a weird move with Isaac Galloway and Jeff Brigham on the 40 man roster. I assume there is a trade market for Wittgren...maybe even in a JT trade?
  3. Oh. I didn't know that was the rule.
  4. Why would he need to stay on the Marlins 25 man roster if he was a Rule 5 pick last year?
  5. Renderings of what will replace the statue and the new standing area in RF from Sports Business Daily.
  6. Not really sure how any of this works, but Lukas also said that there were some changes to the Marlins set last year that weren't included in the style guide and still made it onto the field, so perhaps what is included is not a fully developed concept.
  7. He owns an agency. Clients include Chapman and Vlad Jr.
  8. He’s likely up only because he’s on the 40 man roster and we have limited options due to all the injuries. I do wonder what happened with Elieser Hernandez...he pitched a few times in Jupiter on rehab but nothing in a while. Are they slow playing him because of his rule 5 status?
  9. I read Spencer's article and thought everything in it was fair. I didn't take any of it as the Marlins using Jose as an excuse. If anything the article is blaming Loria for ignoring the advice to rebuild last year when the situation certainly called for it and put the team in a bad spot financially...not Jose. The Hardballtalk article is just another easy shot to take at the organization.
  10. Not everyone of value has to be traded this off season. Given the amount of 2nd baseman on the market, waiting until the deadline isn't a terrible idea.
  11. I'd say Garrett Cooper as of right now.
  12. Not sure how this can be interpreted as Jeter “blaming” Stanton. They seem to agree that the organization was broken and needed to be fixed. Stanton just didn’t want to go through the rebuild and he said as much back in October. It just is what it is.
  13. I do think a lot of it is unfair. I mean, he's made mistakes so far, no doubt, but anyone that was going to buy the team was going to have to clear the payroll. The minor league system, or lack thereof, necessitates a rebuild. Really, this needed to be done last year after the death of Jose. The problem is that Jeter hasn't been public enough. If he comes out and speaks to the media and let's the public know of the plan, I think people would be more receptive to it. Nobody likes a fire sale, but if there is a clear plan out out there, more people would be willing to give the ownership a chance to execute it. Also, he has the perfect opportunity to shift the blame on Loria here...not sure why he hasn't taken it.
  14. I mean, there is a difference between firing the guy and choosing not to renew his contract. Perhaps it was just bad timing...but yeah, definitely a bad look.
  15. Yeah, this part of the story doesn't seem like a huge deal. When the sale was announced, Manfred was even asked about the group wanting to add more investors and did not have an issue with it.
  16. I don’t think it’s new that they want more investors. That’s been the case since they closed. The new info is the pitch material. It basically just outlines what a mess Loria left in his wake.
  17. Perhaps...though I tend to think the people he knows would be more of the analyst role than play-by-play. I guess we will know when they announce a replacement.
  18. I tend to think this was a move by Fox because I find it hard to believe that Jeter would have much of an opinion on this either way.
  19. The most comparable recent TV deals are probably the Twins (12 years $480 million in 2012) and Indians (10 years/$400 million in 2013). The Reds signed a new 15 year deal last year, but I haven't been able to find the amount online...but based on the Indians and Twins deals signed 5 years ago, it's safe to assume the Marlins deal will at least be a minimum of $40 million. Given the market size, I don't think getting more than that is an unreasonable expectation.
  20. The way this article makes it sound is the plan (for now) is to off-load Loria's back-loaded deals. As much as it will suck to trade Stanton, getting his deal off the books solves a lot of financial issues for the franchise. This isn't Jeter's fault. Loria knew what he was doing. He never intended to pay him that money (and Stanton knew it too). He was always going to make it the next owner's problem. Unfortunately now is the time to move him. Jeter is actually lucky that Stanton had a great 2nd half and made his contract trade-able. Obviously though, Ozuna would have a lot of value and you'd have to explore trading him as well. My guess is that a lot will depend on what you get back for Stanton. If they can add say a young starter and a replacement in the OF (maybe one of the Red Sox young OF for example), you can go into next year and try to compete with Yelich, Ozuna, Bour, and Realmuto. Worse case is you can still move pieces at the deadline.
  21. My guess is they had been given long-term contracts and firing them before the ownership change meant that Loria was responsible for picking up the remaining years of those deals.
  22. No. The article says his contract is up at the end of the season.
  23. You actually think Hill hired anyone? Loria was completely in charge. Hill (and Beinfest before him) just did what he was told.
  24. According to Frisaro, firing these guys signed through 2020 prior to the end of the season makes Loria responsible for their contracts. This could help explain why Samson had to fire them since Jeter/Sherman don’t own the team yet. Had they not been fired before ownership changed, then the new owners were responsible for paying them.
  25. What’s weird is that Samson would fire these guys just because he was asked when he has no reason not to tell Jeter to just do it himself. Perhaps Samson agreed to do this as part of the sale agreement?
