November 28, 201015 yr Fox Sports reports we have signed Vazquez to a 1 year deal worth $7 million pending a physical. The deal also includes a full no trade clause and an agreement to not offer arbitration.
November 28, 201015 yr God Bless. If he comes here for anything less then 6 MM it'll be a steal as long as he can maintain his great numbers while in the NL.
November 28, 201015 yr I'm excited almost regardless of the dollar amounts. 2 free agents in one off-season! And both for above league minimum! I'm a fan of the 1-year deal. And if we want to keep him, we might have the flexibility heading into the new ballpark, depending on how things go.
November 28, 201015 yr that's great..that means better pitching for 2011.. the fish are hard up for pitching
November 28, 201015 yr that's great..that means better pitching for 2011.. the fish are hard up for pitching How are they hard up for pitching? They now are 6 deep with above-average bullpen arms. And the rotation of: JJ, Ricky, Anibal, Javy, and Volstad looks good.
November 28, 201015 yr What kind of draft pick is he going to cost? I believe a 2nd-rounder. I love that Sanabia goes to the bullpen now, or can get starts in AAA. At this moment: RHP: Nunez, Hensley, Webb, Mujica, Dunn (LHP), Sanabia/Sances/Badenhop = AWESOME. Even if/when Nunez is traded, Hensley, Webb, Dunn, Mujica, Sanches, Sanabia/Badenhop is plenty solid. We just need 1 more lefty and we'll have put together a really solid bullpen effort.
November 28, 201015 yr Author What kind of draft pick is he going to cost? Won't cost us one. The Yankees do get an extra pick but we keep ours.

Would be nice if Joe Torre's misusage of George Sherrill leading to terrible numbers last year results in Sherrill having to accept a minor league deal this offseason. I'd absolutely love Sherrill as the 2nd lefty out of the pen.
November 28, 201015 yr Damn, I was really banking on us getting Cliff Lee Anyway, decent signing. Nothing to go crazy about, but on a one year contract, a really good signing. So rotation now looks like... Johnson Nolasco Vazquez Sanchez Volstad I like that rotation. Could be a lot better, but it's probably the best rotation we've had to start a season (barring injury) in quite some time.
November 28, 201015 yr Guys... just want to let you know that going into last season our pitching was ranked up amongst the best in the MLB... and look what happened.
November 28, 201015 yr Johnson Nolasco Vazquez Sanchez Volstad Pretty sure Sanchez will be the 3rd starter, and Vazquez 4th.
November 28, 201015 yr Guys... just want to let you know that going into last season our pitching was ranked up amongst the best in the MLB... and look what happened. Our top 2 pitchers got injured, and are now fully ready for the 2011 season?
November 28, 201015 yr Source: J. Vazquez deal with #Marlins will be in $6 million to $7 million range. #MLB
November 28, 201015 yr Johnson Nolasco Vazquez Sanchez Volstad Pretty sure Sanchez will be the 3rd starter, and Vazquez 4th. I think that when the Marlins dish out $6-7 million for any reason, they don't expect a 4th starter. I'd say Vazquez ahead of Sanchez simply because Vazquez has generally been an innings eater. I could easily see Vazquez being our #2 considering Nolasco's shaky history. Personally, Vazquez's numbers last year were probably a mixture of a really bad year and having to pitch at Yankee Stadium half the year and go against AL hitters. Put Vazquez in the NL and at Sun Life Stadium and those numbers should improve (although the NL East is a tough division to pitch in considering the wealth of hitting talent).

November 28, 201015 yr Source: J. Vazquez deal with #Marlins will be in $6 million to $7 million range. #MLB Seems to be what was expected. Now, what is guaranteed (I'd imagine all of the $6-$7MM), and what are the incentives?
November 28, 201015 yr I really love how this signing affects our bullpen because of his ability to eat innings. Even if he doesnt have a year like 2009, his health and ability to take innings off our bullpen is gonna be a big bonus for us this season. If Volstad is our number 5 starter, when he's basically been our #3 guy by default the past two seasons, thats a plus for us. The good thing also, we dont have that #4 or 5 starter whos a throw in that we cross our fingers and hope the best for like Robertson, Hendrickson, and others in the past. We've got 5 guys who are proven at least in some degree. If everyone does their part, we've got our best rotation in a while without the crossing fingers and hoping for the best. Great pickup, especially if he bounces back. Love it!
