April 12, 201313 yr The Mets would be very stupid to make a trade like this. For the time being the Mets are a small market team (Wilpon money troubles) , one that needs to build around prospects and then when they're close enough to being contenders pull the trigger on a deal like this.
April 12, 201313 yr issue if we will trade to mets that same division as us I don't think they care that much...they traded Uggla to one of our biggest rivals without a problem
April 12, 201313 yr I dont know about you guys... BUT I learned my lesson with the Miguel Cabrera trade. To say we need to trade a once in a lifetime player for hope is none sense. I don't believe in this blue chip prospect game. Stop being cheap, over-pay, BUT LOCK UP STANTON NOW

I don't believe in this blue chip prospect game. Stop being cheap, over-pay, BUT LOCK UP STANTON NOW I would love to keep him, but I do not believe for a second that Loria will pay him what he's worth, and I also don't believe that Stanton would agree to a deal unless it was huge. He clearly doesn't want to be here.
April 12, 201313 yr Stanton is gone after this year, and so is anyone else who costs us more than league minimum. :lol You're funny
April 12, 201313 yr Stanton is gone after this year, and so is anyone else who costs us more than league minimum. :lol You're funny I can see this now. *Loria leans over to Samson* "Hey, uh ... how much does Fred make right now?" David: "Who's Fred?" Jeffrey: "The beer guy in section 310." David: "Oh, uh ... *looks through files* says he makes $9.25 an hour." Jeffrey: "And what's minimum wage?" David: "About $7.67, sir." *Loria picks up phone* "Jeremy, can you send up Fred, please? We need to trade him to the Reds."
April 12, 201313 yr Stanton is gone after this year, and so is anyone else who costs us more than league minimum. :lol You're funny I think Hech makes more than league minimum.
April 12, 201313 yr I think Hech makes more than league minimum. He does Well above it, as well. Wow. 2.75 million. Looks like he had signed a 4 year, $7m deal before the 2010 season or something.
April 12, 201313 yr We only have 6 guys making the league minimum according to Cot's. Beinfest and Hill sure have their work cut out for them if Miami_Marlins_fan is right, that's a lot of trades to make.
April 12, 201313 yr We all tend to overvalue our own prospects, right? I can tell you sentiment among Mets fans is that is far too much to give up for a OFer the Marlins have no leverage to keep, is under control for only 3 more years, and stands to break arbitration records after this season. I'll say that I think Stanton is a special player and the players the Mets have out there are special prospects - but I'm not sure that trade fits the team's building plan. I don't see a Mets trade happening for Stanton, but he's going somewhere eventually. Your judgment of the Marlins' leverage is misguided. Even if Stanton flat refuses to sign here, there are still 29 other teams that would be thrilled to acquire him. So, the Marlins have a whole lot of leverage.
April 12, 201313 yr There are teams with far better systems than the Mets who would be more than willing to meet the high price for Stanton.
April 12, 201313 yr The only way the Marlins should do this is if they get both Wheeler and Harvey in the deal, and I doubt the Mets are interested in doing such a thing. I don't understand why this is suddenly popular speculation. It makes little sense for both teams, all things considered.
April 13, 201313 yr Marlins trading for Profar will be funny when they have Hechavarria who is 'supposed' to be the next big thing or at least thats kinda what Beinfest hinted at, when acquiring him. I get the Mets desire to trade for Stanton. Harvey isnt getting moved. They would probably do Wheeler, but only because they got so much from the Jays. Funnier would be the Mets basically sending most of their catch from the Jays to the Marlins for Stanton, which is a lot of what the Marlins would probably ask for.
April 13, 201313 yr The only way I would trade Stanton is for hitting. I wouldn't want a pitcher or a catcher back for him. Think an outfielder, 1B and 2B. Something like Wil Myers, Richie Shaffer and Tim Beckham from the Rays. Or Olt, Profar and Martin from the Rangers.
April 13, 201313 yr The Rays are moving Shaffer to 1B, because he's not going to ever play 3B for them with Longoria signed to a long term deal. Olt could play 3B or 1B.
April 13, 201313 yr It really is just sad how I feel like Stanton hasn't even got it really going with us yet and we're talking about trading him.
April 13, 201313 yr I don't want the Marlins to trade Stanton. He reminded me of "The Natural" last year when he knocked out the bulbs on the scoreboard. But, if he doesn't want to be in Miami, the Marlins should look to move him....but only for a huge package.
April 13, 201313 yr Sorry to say this, but I think both Profar and Olt are insanely overrated Based off of what?

Hechavarria can move to 2B, where he's supposed to play just as good defensively - or Profar can move there. They can both exist in the same infield.
