Tino resigns

Featured Replies

I think there's more than enough people saying he was straight up abusive, this doesn't seem like he was just being tough. The only one who's giving that story is Tino himself, and I don't blame him for trying to soften this up. I think his resignation points to him acknowledging more than he's saying. If he was just being tough, he'd defend himself more than just resigning almost minutes after the media caught light of this. Even then, I read through his words and while trying to paint a nicer picture its like he's pretty much still admitting things went too far.

Sounds to me like a case of soft parenting clashing with the way Tino was probably raised. Man, these kids can't handle a little CRITICISM and YELLING? Is our team made of little bitches who can't handle any toughness because their parents were always nice to them and never criticized them growing up. If what Tino is saying is true, then this is ridiculous. They're MEN, not boys. Handle the criticism and IMPROVE YOURSELVES rather than bitch and moan about being "yelled at." What the f*** ...

Being sarcastic or?If it's true that they were just yelled at, then I'm being completely serious. He admitted the Dietrich situation, and just grabbing by the jersey is a lot better than "by the neck." They need to man up.

You're wrong. Tino needs to learn how to be a professional.

And these "kids" don't need to learn how to handle criticism?

Also, at the end of the day... our offense is the worst of all, and this issue is probably a HUGE part of it. And it means Tino isn't getting his job done. Whether its tough love or abuse... there's a huge lack of connection between Tino and the players, therefore, Tino needs to go.

If its just criticism, you're absolutely right. If its verbal and/or physical abuse, then its a whole different scenario.

Coming from their hitting coach, they need to learn how to hit. They don't need to learn how to take criticism. Not from him, anyway. You can teach and get your point across without a physical altercation or verbal abuse.

every single coach of every sport in the world gives criticism. that's hardly what's being talked about here.

But what makes his story any more believable. Reports have been saying that Dietrich didnt say a thing until asked by Red. Sounds to me like he did man up untill a Man in charge asked.

No one would tolerate someone grabbing them by the shirt. Tino has no right to do that. It's not about having to "man up" or whatever. Tino seems like a douche.

Wow. Who knew Tino was crazy.

Of course this all could have been avoided had Loria let Red choose his hitting coach. Though it isn't Loria's fault Tino is crazy.

Alright, I overreacted a little bit, I'll admit.

If Redmond really wanted him gone, then, yeah, that says a lot.

Actually you kinda didn't. You basically waited to hear Tino's side of the story before the rest of us did. And then you gave him the benefit of the doubt. I'm pretty sure he doesn't deserve that but... you kinda were the only one giving him a chance. You must be good on jury duty.

Wow, I don't even know where to begin with this. I 'm glad he stepped down and I don't want to sound like I'm defending him, but here goes.

I can't really blame the Marlins lack of hitting on Martinez, with the unproven hitters and the fact he had no prior coaching experience. Regardless of who the hitting coach was I don't think the offense would have done much better.

Also I can assume that when Tino was playing he had coaches that got all over his ass when he made mistakes, but times have certainly changed not that I think this would help improve a player. I also think its harder for really successful players to be coaches or managers as those players like Redmond who sat there and learned a lot about the game.

This is just so hard to comprehend that something like this even happened.

I don't know who the next hitting coach should be, but I do know that Redmond should pick him.
