Rydawg
I'm with Lorenzo on this one. Hendo might be a steal for the A's or he may throw one pitch and Tony Saunders away into oblivion. It doesn't matter really. The point is that with very few other options and our payroll already being so low, we should have taken a chance on a one year deal. The money used on Mathis is a waste and could have been allocated for Hendo.
SilverBullet
Unless Alvarez had a lower chance of actually pitching than we thought, which is my question here. $1 Million for Mathis to backup and mentor JT and the pitching staff is money better spent than $4 million for Alvarez to spend the entire season at home putting ice on his elbow. Bret Hart
Hendy has been thrown high two-seam fastball. And he underwent an arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, so these situation seems to impact his pitching speed highly. Maybe rare chance to rehab clearly and see him on mound again. I cannot believe it A's paid those much money.
BafflingBeerman
I really like Alvarez and am disappointed to see him go. But he was also frustrating, constantly being injured and the rumors of him pitching thrown partial tears of who-knows-what. When he was on the mound, he was reliable, but how often can you rely on him being on the mound? I can see why the Marlins non-tendered him and why the A's would take a flyer on him. SilverBullet
I had a dream we were getting Maeda because Loria felt he was our one chance to actually get a pitching upgrade so he decided to just splurge all our remaining 2016 payroll on that guy. CoastieMike
Saw some Ian Kennedy rumblings on MLBN, projecting our rotation with him in it, is that a sign of something to come? @Admin
Erick
Coming into the offseason, I felt like all we really needed to do was bring back Jeff Mathis so I am satisfied.

pollythewog
Oh david.,.. lol "It's been an interesting offseason. Sometimes the best moves are the moves you don't make," team president David Samson said. "The most important move was bringing in Don Mattingly. He has provided a very interesting frame of reference during all of our meetings and conference calls."

SilverBullet
So Don Mattingly has taught the Marlins that sometimes trusting your core a little longer is a solid move in itself. I can buy that thought but we still need more pitching to complement that core. Admin, how much of that is Samson PR bullshit and how much of it is truly the FOs mindset?
