It's clear with the bullpen guys (Yimi, Floro, and Bass would all be middle relievers on most good teams) but it's also something you see in the starting rotation. Sandy Alcantara has developed into a guy who gets more swings and misses, but his game is ground balls. Pablo Lopez has started getting more Ks recently, but he's not a huge strikeout guy either. Guys who throw strikes are great because they don't walk guys and give up free base runners, but sometimes (especially with the atrocious extra inning rules) you need a guy who can strike someone out. I mean, with a runner on second base and no outs, with a guy like Yimi pitching? There's almost no way the guy doesn't score. The last kind of pitcher you want in late game situations is a fly ball guy who can't make anyone swing and miss. It’s like they forgot that they built our team around contact hitters since our parks so large. They were like F it let’s create a bullpen that helps do the exact same thing against us when we are at home.

A 27-year old “prospect” who can’t even reach the Mendoza Line after 900 big league plate appearances. “But, hey, let’s not talk extension with Starling and give Sweet Lew another chance next season. Did you see what he did in Spring Training?” -The front office probably Again admission that Denbo was wrong. I think the real issue lies in Denbo/Jeter are the ones making the final call on everything. Go blame them for all your ills.

June 9, 20215 yr What about playing several games this season without 26 players? We must lead the league in pitchers pinch-hitting/reliever plate appearances because we've been shorthanded several times. Is Kim Ng not a part of the day-to-day roster decisions? Maybe not, I don't know, but usually a GM gets the blame for those kind of things. Mike Hill got blame for those things even when Loria was around, apparently controlling the majority of the decisions. It comes with the territory of being named general manager. I'm not saying Kim Ng deserves an F for her decision-making so far, but lets just say she deserves some criticism too.

I recall most being very happy with this signing when it happened though.

I assume part of is related to roster crunch and numbers issue along with travel related isuses. But when they have played a man down because of infielder injury there is literally NO ONE that they can call up! The 40 man roster is constructed fairly poorly. The may injuries have exasperated the problem big time.

They could've called up ANY position player. It didn't have to be an infielder. Yes, they needed an IF but they needed a warm body most of all.

Well the only outfield options they have are: Lewin Diaz (probably should get more chances but he is super blocked) Jerar Encarnacion (in AA for the first time this year, not getting called up) Monte Harrison Lew Brinson Jesus Sanchez (we have discussed him ad naseum) Its not like there are numerous options without DFA'ing someone.
June 9, 20215 yr Honestly with the increase in roster to 26, the eligible roster needs to be increased as well. With all these injuries (which they should have seen coming) they should have increased to a 45 man roster or something. But that costs money. Owners are all claiming poverty as it is.

I get it though, he’s 27 and other than last year and this year he’s under .200. Diaz, Monte, Berti, and Pop needed to be DFA’d. Monte can’t even beat LB. Marte was never coming back btw. He’s being dealt rather people like it our not. He’s going to demand 15 +. They’re not going to pay that.

I just think he'll want a SMIDGE more than that. I still think it'll be more a product of wanting a longer contract (with the whole part about wanting his next contract to be his last effectively)

The number of years may be the sticking point.

Jeter is part of the team, nowhere does it say that he's meddling like Loria. Das made that up. And even being part of the team doesn't say much. Loria was the kind that if everyone said go left he made everyone go right but we have no clue if Jeter is like that. Even being the final say doesn't say about how he does it because the final say could just be affirming what everyone else wants. If everyone says go left and Jeter agrees to go left then that's not meddling. Also, I think it’s fair to say that Jeter knows a little bit more about baseball than Loria…
