BTW, Mike Stanton is not on the list of National League Home Run Derby votees, so you would need to add him via write in... figures.

They have Ichiro of all people in the American League who has a grand total of 0 HR's. :lol

The best part is, as badass as Stanton is, it appears that Morrison might be right there with him.

Right now just the derby .... the game itself is sold out, but I am going to try and get tickets for that as well

 

There were tickets still available in the bleachers and that was very tempting - but I'll be going with my brother and his kids - we are both on the taller side and the boys are going to be 8, so while the allure of having the opportunity to have the HR balls be up for grabs sounds fun it may not be the best all things considering

 

So we ended up getting tickets in the upper level section behind home plate - which should allow us to pretty easily follow them from contact to completion, provide actual seats and I think probably a better experience for a couple of younger boys

 

Included with the HR Derby are the batting practices for both leagues earlier that day as well as the HR Derby batting practice - so maybe between them we'll be able to spend some time in the outfield concourse/seats and watch some shots from that angle as well

 

Goofy thing is how much MLB is pushing their fanfest - basically the expo at the convention center - you had to buy tickets to that if you wanted tickets to the derby .... if you then bought a ticket to the game through MLB you'd have to buy another fanfest ticket

 

Even in the strip of tickets for all the weeks events you get an individual seat for all days, 1 program and then 2 fanfest tickets .... kind of annoying

 

I'm excited for it though and I think the kids will get some good memories out of it as well

This needs to be bumped due to Stanton's 11th to dead center.

Giants broadcasters said during bp stanton hit a ball over the rail with the 501ft sign on it just in front of the giant glove. Just missed the glove. Said they've never seen a ball hit up there.

I want to see some pitcher knock Stanton back or down, have Mike stare back at him, then on the next pitch launch one 550 feet and stare at the pitcher as he slowly jogs to first. If I were the pitcher in that situation, I'd be crapping my trousers.

Yeah, I did a brief google search before posting the question and found no definite answer either way and I didn't care enough to continue searching. I hope he gets selected so I can watch but then I hope he doesn't so he can rest during the break.

I didn't read that part I figured they would have a vote to select which players would hit, but yes with all that you have said it does, benefit Stanton and I would actually be surprised if he wasn't picked for the HR derby considering this year's performance.

I could have sworn I posted something in here about that card looking like a T209 or Bowman Color card or something, guess I was mistaken.

I'm going to post something I wrote from another board because I remember a few people talking about Stanton pricing himself out of our range with his performances this year:

 

Mike Stanton is 5 full years after this year from being a free agent. He's got a long way to go before he even starts making more than the minimum. It's kind of difficult to find comps for guys who were bought out pre-arbitration, but I think I've been able to work out a pretty good idea of what he could sign for in the offseason.

 

Someone who could provide a pretty good framework is Jay Bruce, who had a very similar service time after his rookie year. He was hurt his 2nd year, but his service time was extremely similar. The production's not quite a perfect match, but Bruce was a very productive player in his first three years for the most part. Stanton will probably outpace him, but it's the best i can do.

 

He played out his first three years for the minimum and then signed a 6/51 with an option to get it to 7/68.

 

Then there's someone like Grady Sizemore, who signed for 6/23 with an option for 8.5 in his 7th after his first full season, which put him somewhere around 1.060 years of service time, or something.

 

Sizemore had more service time than Stanton does right now when he signed his deal, and Stanton is still 2 full years from being where Bruce was when he signed. Assuming we won't sign a Stanton until after this season, we'll split the difference between them.

 

You can probably get Stanton for something like 6/35 that buys out all of his arbitration plus one FA year and then tack on two options for $15 that bring the total to like 8/65. He absolutely signs that, and quite honestly, that 6/35 might be too high, because it's based largely on Bruce's contract, and Stanton's still going to be 2 seasons from any sort of paycheck at the end of this year.

 

If he's half as good as we think he will be, 6/35 (8/65) is a freaking bargain, and I'm fairly certain he'd sign it right away.
