October 10, 201114 yr This is from 9/27-I did not see it posted here. Anyway, this is an interesting perspective into Logan. Seems to me, he sure is trying to get himself moved. Regardless of how you feel about management or even the small crowds, it is not helpful to trash the fans and call our home a s-hole. There is an apparent level of a high level of self appointed self worth. September 27, 2011, 1:08 PM Logan Morrison: The Wild One Before they became products, ballplayers could say whatever they wanted. The Marlins outfielder is tweeting his way back in time. By Will Leitch On August 12, hotshot Florida Marlins outfielder Logan Morrison was one of baseball's most promising young slugging prospects. Only twenty-three, he had hit seventeen homers, played occasionally stunning defense, and with fellow young slugger Mike Stanton formed a cheap, powerful corner-outfield tandem. He was precisely the type of cost-controlled player every franchise in baseball drools over. On August 13, the Marlins sent Morrison to the minor leagues. On the surface, this made no sense. But Morrison wasn't demoted because of his statistics. It was because of his iPhone. Before the start of the season, Morrison joined (or whatever the word is) Twitter. He embraced tweeting, loved tweeting, tweeted relentlessly. But the thing about Twitter is, of course, your boss can see it. Can follow you around like a schoolmarm. The Marlins saw Morrison respond to one of his 64,731 followers by calling the person an "underrated slut," and tweet a picture of himself wearing a "SHARKTITS" T-shirt, and admit he might be "turned on" by watching Sonya Thomas eat forty hot dogs on ESPN. And soon, whenever his name popped up, the Marlins went on alert. He's gonna say something crazy! Here goes! It was harmless, mostly — the kind of stuff Tom Seaver might say over a beer with a writer back in the day, or that Catfish Hunter would mutter postgame, slumped in front of his locker. That was before publicists and handlers and nervous front-office types. Josh Beckett has never had a beer with a writer, never will. But Logan Morrison has Twitter. And so he can say stuff like this: "My farts aren't manly (at all). They sound like a baby blowing out birthday candles." And everyone — fans, sportswriters, other players — laps it up as if he just gave a press conference. "People take it so seriously," Morrison said in an interview in New York a couple of weeks before his demotion. "Somebody will take it and be like, 'Oh, my God, did you see what he said? I can't believe he said that.' I mean, come on. It's Twitter." But with Morrison, it isn't all baby farts and shark tits. On August 7, six days before his demotion, he tweeted, "Is this David Samson? Yes or no? Vote now" with a photo of a man (not Samson) who could only be described as a dork. David Samson is the Marlins' president. Unlike athletes who use Twitter to publicize charity golf tournaments, Morrison uses it the way it's supposed to be used: as a public chat room, a way for an athlete to show a bit of himself without having to stand naked in a room of bald white men holding microphones. But he has inverted this: He's actually made himself more famous because of Twitter. As he points out, "There are more people who follow me on Twitter than go to Marlins games." The team said he was sent to the Triple-A New Orleans Zephyrs because he needed to "concentrate on all aspects of being a major leaguer." Translation: He's freaking out the suits. Earlier this year, Samson admonished Morrison for his tweets, saying, "I'm not a dinosaur but I'm not thrilled," adding, "No one will care about his tweets if they're coming from New Orleans." Morrison responded by changing his Twitter profile photo to a cartoon of himself with "Censored" duct-taped over his mouth. "For them to even say anything to me, I was kind of taken aback by it," he said to me. "I mean, I'm driving fans to you. Look around!" Fans love him, because at a time when robotic, overhandled athletes try to keep their adoring fans at a distance, Morrison is doing a stage dive. There was a Facebook campaign to get him on the All-Star team this year, and after his demotion his Twitter support ballooned. I tried to reach Morrison — via Twitter — after his demotion, but predictably he fell silent. One thing didn't change, though: With or without Morrison, the Florida Marlins are baseball's forgotten, irritating franchise, with no fans, no history, and, annoyingly, two World Series championships in the last fifteen years. He's as frustrated with the very concept of the Marlins as they are with him. At the end of our conversation — he was in New York to play the Mets — I asked him if he had to fly back to Florida after that night's game. "Yep," he sighed. "Back to the sh*thole." It was the kind of jab he'd throw on Twitter. No way the front office is gonna shut him up. No, the worst they can do is ban him from the sh*thole, send him to the minors, and see if anyone still listens to him. Read more: http://www.esquire.c...1#ixzz1aNuJnaX7
October 10, 201114 yr I'm very annoyed by the way this was written. It seems like the writer has his own personal dislike of the team. With or without Morrison, the Florida Marlins are baseball's forgotten, irritating franchise, with no fans, no history, and, annoyingly, two World Series championships in the last fifteen years. Yeah f*** you buddy
October 10, 201114 yr Morrison seems like a nice guy. How many liked Sun life? If you could his 30 homers for Florida infront of 15000 or do it in front of double or triple that in New York or wherever you would prefer that. The person who wrote this article as someone said, seems to have his own vendetta against the Marlins. A Nats fan perhaps.
October 10, 201114 yr Author Lomo's immaturity shows (constantly) in his statment from the article: Morrison said in an interview in New York a couple of weeks before his demotion. "Somebody will take it and be like, 'Oh, my God, did you see what he said? I can't believe he said that.' I mean, come on. It's Twitter." Just because it is Twitter, you are still accountable. Without getting in to the merits of Hank Williams, if he had said what he said on Twitter would it have been allright because "I mean, come on. It's Twitter.". As far as the writer also having a axe to grind, sure seems like he does-it is the Bob Costas syndrome.
October 10, 201114 yr "more people follow me on twitter than go to marlins games" HOLY CRAP CONGRATS!!! I mean sure following someone on twitter takes zero effort, zero money, and zero time, but I'm impressed!
October 10, 201114 yr On August 7, six days before his demotion, he tweeted, "Is this David Samson? Yes or no? Vote now" with a photo of a man (not Samson) who could only be described as a dork. I hadn't seen this before. If that really happened, how can anyone argue against some form of reprimand? You can't do that to a boss, client, etc., and expect brownie points. At this stage of his career, the one person Logan is hurting the most with this reckless candor is himself. Whoever is advising him (agent, family, friends) is doing a lousy job.
October 10, 201114 yr The lack of anything resembling self reflection or self awareness about what he does is startling.

October 10, 201114 yr wow so south florida and the new stadium are shitholes now. i wish i could punch him in the face.
October 10, 201114 yr The lack of anything resembling self reflection or self awareness about what he does is startling. Having admittedly only read the clips and not the article, I still cannot help but agree with this. He's not unintelligent, but I don't know what the heck it is that causes him to do and say these things. Don't forget, he's only been in the big leagues for a very short time, and he already has a mile-long list of these sorts of remarks and actions.
October 10, 201114 yr Insult the boss Perform poorly for 2 months Ditch company events Yep, anyone else would be collecting unemployment
October 10, 201114 yr He's our resident douche. What can we do about it besides trade him? I doubt anything's going to change soon.
October 10, 201114 yr Hopefully Morrison will grow up and shut up, does anyone here follow him on twitter?Honestly wjy would he think that anyone cares about his farts? It sounds to me that he may have more likely deserved a suspension more than a demotion. As for the writer, probably a NY writer or worse a Mets fan.
October 10, 201114 yr I defended him at first but I'm starting to get tired of his sh*t. This article wasn't the most fairly written article so I wouldn't be surprised if some of it was twisted but still. Lomo is still Filling his creek with sh*t, it's just a matter of time whether We find out if he builds a bridge and crosses over it or he try's to swim and drown. The FO verbally says they won't trade him, maybe as an FU to Lomo but If we can package him for a big talent, I see him gone.
October 10, 201114 yr He's our resident douche. What can we do about it besides trade him? I doubt anything's going to change soon. We can keep him because the douchiness is irrelevant and he's a good young hitter.
October 10, 201114 yr I think this guy needs a lot of guidance... he seems to be so full of himself. One should ask him if his father would be proud of they way he is conducting himself?

October 10, 201114 yr LoMo is paid to be a professional ballplayer and needs to act like one. How many people have jobs where Day1 of Orientation / Training you are told flat out: Anything posted on a Media Forum (Blog, Forum, Chat Room, Social network, etc) of a negative nature towards the company will result in disciplinary action or termination? The last few jobs I have had preach this policy. If the Samson incident happened, then hell yeah, Logan deserves his demotion. He is playing a "kids game" and I think that is his mentality towards how he behaves while playing it. The Marlins baseball club is a company; it is a business, and Logan is a representative / salesman of the final product. He needs to grow up. I wonder if his dad would have busted Logan's ass this season if he was still alive. Maybe Stanton should start giving him "The Look" more when Logan acts out of line. A few of those will have Logan crapping his pants and flying right in no time ** "The Look" refers to that game earlier this year when Mike caught a foul ball and some guy tried to hit him and Mike just turned and gave the "Death-Stare"
October 10, 201114 yr wow so south florida and the new stadium are shitholes now. i wish i could punch him in the face. He was talking about Sun Life. Now, I'm not against LoMo at all. Why? He's on my favorite team. Sure, he could shut up a bit, but I'm not going to not support him cause of stupid things he says or does. He plays all out, I respect the hell out of him, and I, like all of you, will be rooting for him opening day.

Was he talking about S Florida in general, the fans, the management? I did not take it to be as simple as a dislike for the stadium, that would be too easy. He rips too many aspects to pigeon hole it as to a basic dislike of the stadium only.
October 10, 201114 yr I can understand it possibly being South Florida in general, but I'm pretty sure he was talking about the stadium. Besides, if you read what I quoted, canada-marlin assumed he was talking about the NEW stadium, which is why I said Sun Life.
