November 11, 201114 yr This is legit. I'm excited, no matter how fictional our interest might turn out to be...
November 11, 201114 yr Per Rotoworld Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins are "serious" about signing free agent Albert Pujols and "intend to make a competitive offer." Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reported previously that the Marlins' bigger priorities were Jose Reyes and Yoenis Cespedes, with Pujols more of a longshot. Evidently, though, their courtship of the slugger is real. Pujols is in Miami Friday, having lunch with Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and other front office executives while also taking in a tour of the team's new ballpark. Spencer adds that Loria, in particular, "covets" Pujols. Source: Miami Herald Nov 11 - 2:06 PM
November 11, 201114 yr Would this be comparable to the Lebron signing?... Yeah right? I mean, imagine what the Dolphins must feel like if this deal happens. For the first time in history, baseball and basketball will be more popular than our football team no?
November 11, 201114 yr This is so exciting. Please don't sign him to some stupid deal though. 8 years, $120mm + 100% of all Pujols jersey sales? I think that'd be fair

November 11, 201114 yr Marlins Notes: Pujols, Cespedes, Reyes By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 11 at 12:51pm CST] The Marlins will unveil their new uniforms and logos tonight, when they officially become the Miami Marlins. Here's the latest on the team, which has begun the offseason in style, courting several big-name free agents...The Marlins are serious about signing Albert Pujols and intend to make a competitive offer, according to Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria covets Pujols and envisions him at first base in 2012, according to Spencer. The Marlins are meeting with Pujols and agent Dan Lozano today. You can read the details here. The Marlins like what they saw from Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes yesterday, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. "We think we're a great fit because we're Miami, and we're a natural destination for any Cuban player, any Latin player," Marlins president David Samson said. "We are the Gateway to the Americas. We're the Miami Marlins. I think that he agrees, but we have to make a deal that makes sense for both parties." The Marlins are more likely to sign Jose Reyes and Cespedes than Pujols, according to MLB.com’s Joe Frisaro.

You have to draw the line somewhere, and hockey is where its at. Even if the panthers sign the dreamteam, it would never be as popular as baseball, let alone football or basketball. If Marlins somehow get Pujols, it would be Heat>Marlins>Dolphins>>>>Panthers no?

The Panthers were very popular back in the 90's due to their early success. And with the Dolphins sucking and no NBA right now, people will begin to pay attention.

Hell, a couple years ago when it looked like they were going to make the playoffs with a big push, it was hard to get tickets to the last week or two of games.

I just don't think enough people care about hockey though. Even if they were on a verge of an undefeated season, popularity would still pale in comparison to the other franchises. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong or underestimating the popularity of hockey in South Fla.

Shoot, I confess I used to watch the panthers back in the mid 90's as well.
November 11, 201114 yr I hope the fans turn out in heaps at 11 PM. They might just let Pujols hang out backstage while it's all going on.
November 11, 201114 yr So will Pujols have a 2 hour special on his decision? Yep, from 9pm-11pm and then you can buy his jersey tonight.
November 11, 201114 yr I'm serious, that would be f***ing epic if Pujols or Reyes walks out in a Marlins uniform. Hey if you wanna add fuel to the fire, you can say that Samson was stalling the other day when he wouldn't comment on Pujols but had no problem talking about anyone else. They have been in contact. Offered a contract he couldnt refuse. Pujols is really in Miami to sign the contract and throw on a uniform. Loria has been saving his pennies over the past 11 years. Like it or not, everyone here has to to admit it would be the story of the century.

I'm all for it though... just make sure its being recorded so I can watch it later
November 11, 201114 yr I wonder how Cardnial fans would react to that. photoshop a pujols jersey in here
November 11, 201114 yr I think they are meeting with these guys to make the fans feel they are going after big names, come the start of the season same team as before. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me, If Loria pulls that, then I think even MLB steps in and starts to try and get him out. MLB has a stake in this new rebranding of MLB as we are seen as the gateway team to the baseball playing areas of the Caribbean. They want this to succeed and will be livid if Loria screws this up, and the chances of MLB being big here.
