Phillies had very good hitters and good enough pitching to get around their defense, apparently.

Yeah but flip offense and pitching on our end and it’s essentially the same thing. Maybe not this year in particular but when the Staff is Sandy, Eury, Cabrera, Luzardo, and Sixto, a “good enough” offense might be just enough to do the same as they did

Mish & Jackson notes!

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/mlb/miami-marlins/article272596634.html

 - AJ Puk dealing with a minor leg injury, will attempt to throw a bullpen in the next couple days.

 - Marlins looking at Fortes and Groshans as backup first base options, as well as Arraez [and play Berti at second] when Coop needs days off from field.

 - Glenn Geffner lashed out at the franchise saying his non-renewal was due to money, not the provided reason of "a more conversational approach on the radio instead of statistics."

Quote

“ Good for them. They save a few bucks, and the product suffers.”

I like Geff and I get he is bitter about it especially if they are leaking out false info, but this quote was kind of a dick thing to say. Sielaff did nothing to him.

I'm going to guess he meant more that the fans don't get the statistics education, but yes it can certainly be read that way that going from himself to Sielaff is a downgrade.

I hate getting rid of broadcasters that have been with the team for so long.

Unless they do something wrong you can never get rid of those guys and have it be considered any good. Teams should just wait until those guys retire or choose to leave, firing them without actual justification is awful all around.

This is just my opinion/guess, because I obviously have no idea what really happened...

I don't think it was financially motivated because I can't imagine Geff was making anything outrageous compared to what Sielaff is now making. Sure, he'd be higher paid but it can't possibly be THAT significant.

I think the bigger reason for the change is they wanted to go younger. They obviously can't say that's the reason since there are age discrimination laws and all. But that's my take on it. They wanted a "young" voice who could resonate with the younger fans more. Someone who is more in-tune with what the young folks think and the words/phrases they may use.

Wow, I’m glad I’m not a kid these days. Our slang was so much better.

”Yo, son, that ish is smashed by my bro looking hella swole, playa!”

No set closer, Skip said he will go best matchup because he isn't a fan of assigned closers.

I think thats his way of saying he doesnt know yet. Best guess?

No, I think he really plans to go with whoever is the best matchup in the seventh, eight and ninth rather than holding a guy back so he can pitch the 9th.
