July 24, 20233 yr Marlins interested in Candelario, per MLBTR: “The Marlins have interest in Nationals third baseman Jeimer Candelario, as USA Today’s Bob Nightengale writes that Miami views “Candelario as a perfect fit.” With a cumulative -0.9 bWAR posted by Marlins third basemen this season, no team has received less from the hot corner than the Fish, as Jean Segura‘s resurgence over the last few weeks haven’t been enough to erase his very rough performance over the first three months. Segura could move into a utility role in the event of a Candelario trade, as Luis Arraezis a lineup fixture at second base, Jorge Soler is primarily a DH, and the hot-hitting Garrett Cooper is the primary first baseman. I’d love this. I would support a platoon of Wendle and Segura at SS. But knowing the Marlins they would probably platoon Segura and Candelario at 3B, like still letting Segura start 2/5 games there. Which would be an improvement, but hopefully there is a team out there who would request Segura as part of a trade, even for a 18 year old low A SS batting .182 in his first season. Marlins would still win that trade. Just by having Segura off the team. They would win that trade. 😂

Rogers at this point, yes. Although I imagine with his current injury situation(s), Cinci says no. But also ... 1. We have enough second basemen 2. He doesn't hit well at all away from Cincinnati (83 wRC+ or, more simply, .219 average)

Jean is just bad all around. So he better just be a spot-start kind of thing. Like 10 games in a row without a day off and Jeimer needs a breather kind of spot-start. Fielding - Jean has been bad and even with the eye test looks bad. Has a couple flashy plays here and there but only because he's BAD at third base. Jeimer is at least a positive defender. Jean just needs to be on the bench. Full time.

Is it really worth it to give up Trevor Rogers, Braxton Garrett or even Cabrera for 2 months of Candelario and the come October the Marlins are in the exact same position with their 3B situation just minus a LH starting pitcher? It's a pass for me. India is a very mid player at a position where we have redundancy already. He doesn't move the needle, at all. He's definitely not worth Cabs or Brax and we we certainly shouldn't sell low on Rogers.

I’d love this. Is he better than Jean? Sure! Will he make a big difference? Probably not. He's had a very up and down career, but mostly down. He is having g a decent season, though and Washington is going to want to get the most out of it. I'm not against it but I'd proceed with caution. Also, if this is going to be our big hitting acquisition, I'd pass and go with internal options.
