Really don't like this trade at all. I'm not even sure why Choate was included in the deal. Yes, Hanley hasn't performed this last few years like he should have, but he has potential the type of potential that given a change of scenery Hanley can become a yearly Allstar/Silver Slugger-type player again. And for that we get a back-end of rotation starter and a minor leaguer that MAY break into the big leagues in a few years... I think the FO could have done a bit better at least, even considering it was salary dump move.

Maybe Chris Coghlan might remember how to hit someday? I think he played 3B in the minors in the past but that is a long shot. We have nothing in the minor leagues as far as infielders are concerned. Not much to choose from in FA either. We'll have to get a 3B in a trade but other than Josh Johnson, the rest of our trade bait isn't going to net us much of a return. So, we either get Olt or someone of that caliber back in a trade for Johnson or we are screwed. Not a good situation for 3B right now. As a matter of fact that was one of our bigger problems in the past until we shifted Hanley over there this season. We've come full circle in the hot corner.

The Hanley trade is fine. Going to get Josh Hamilton would be a Loria move but I would oppose it. Hamilton's going be paid greatly and looking at his plate discipline and his age, don't think he's a good option.

Coghlan is actually doing better in the minors. Nothing outstanding but hes the highest stat wise that hes been in a few years.

I agree. Signing Upton is ideal. Take the rest of that money and use it to buy more solid pieces, instead of a flashy one.

That's what I'm saying, I have no idea why we settled on Eovaldi. Guy's decent but even witrh the contract, Hanley could have gotten more, especially with Choate paired with him.

Yeah, I heard the Rangers assigned him an accountability partner for all away games to monitor him. I guess they can do something similar here but getting him just isn't worth it.

I agree with the sentiments above as well, I'd rather have a collection of solid players than one superstar like Hamilton, the Florida Panthers did a good job following that blueprint last off season and made the playoffs for the first time in 10 years.

If he wanted to relapse, he would. Doesnt matter what team he plays for. I work with that population and if they want drugs/alcohol - they will find a way. Would not make a difference if he played for us.

We got Gaby Hernandez for Rhodes in '08. He was probably a low B prospect at the time.
