August 5, 201412 yr BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox fans are often shooed off the radio every time they propose a cooky trade scenario to bring Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton to Boston, but all that hoping and wishing doesn’t seem too far off — not according to CBS Sports national baseball insider Jon Heyman, anyway. Heyman joined 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Gresh & Zolak show Tuesday afternoon for his weekly appearance, and when the subject of third baseman Will Middlebrooks was brought up, Heyman transitioned quickly into the 24-year-old Miami slugger. “I think Boston is looking ultimately for Giancarlo Stanton. And hopefully in their mind will package some of their young players to get him, Heyman told Andy Gresh and Mike Flynn. “I think [Middlebrooks] is a potential trading chip and he needs to show that he can get back to where he was a couple of years ago and perform at that level. He’s a big, right-handed power hitter that’s cost efficient and has good value as long as he’s producing. Stanton is currently batting .290 with 26 home runs and 74 RBI in the NL East, and Heyman believes he could be the future Red Sox right fielder. “I do see right field as a spot where Boston — and they’re not the only ones — and the Dodgers will be two of the most aggressive in looking for Giancarlo Stanton to be their right fielder. http://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/08/05/heyman-on-gresh-zo-red-sox-will-make-aggressive-offseason-run-at-giancarlo-stanton/
August 5, 201412 yr Give us top 15 prospects, Fenway Park, and stock our soda machines for 3 years and you've got a deal.
August 5, 201412 yr If they trade Stanton, they might as well send Cishek with him. Cishek's a Boston guy anyway. We'd take their whole farm system and hope that they don't Detroit us.
August 5, 201412 yr I saw Mookie Betts play for Portland against the Reading Phillies. Ball jumps off his bat. If a trade happened, I would include him.
August 5, 201412 yr Stanton isn't going anywhere. The front office knows they wouldn't be able to get away with that.
August 5, 201412 yr However if we HAD to trade him id go Dodgers and start with that cuban 2b that miguel olivo ate, Seager, and Urias along with more. If the marlins ever knew that they had to trade him there would be a bidding war for him.

If the marlins ever knew that they had to trade him there would be a bidding war for him. If the Dodgers really want him, ask for "that 2nd baseman" (Alex Guerrero, who isn't all that young, but whatever), Seager, Urias, Pederson, and maybe one more pitching prospect. Pederson would take Stanton's outfield spot.
August 6, 201412 yr Hopefully we just sign him. Heyman mentioning Stanton and Middlebrooks together is laughable x10, though.

August 6, 201412 yr As a Marlin fan it would not surprise me in the slightest bit if they traded him. With the Sox I would take their top three prospects *Betts, Owens and Swihart)and Middlebrooks and its a done deal.
August 6, 201412 yr I love Stanton but every thread that talks about him frustrates me so much. Stupid fo. I don't think I can get over this. I do agree there, can't wait to get his fate over with and resolved one way or the other so the whole franchise can just move on and all of baseball can quit talking about it. This discussion has been happening for 2+ years... Sick of it.
August 6, 201412 yr Well articles like this make me hope we keep Stanton just to prove the Sox wrong. I hate when other teams fans bring up Stanton as if he's already there's or something.
August 6, 201412 yr Well articles like this make me hope we keep Stanton just to prove the Sox wrong. I hate when other teams fans bring up Stanton as if he's already there's or something. Especially when they mention shit like Middlebrooks. Yea, he's gonna be the bat we want... Not.
August 6, 201412 yr I feel like Giancarlo in Fenway would lead to a whole lot of 110 mph singles off the Monster. That or a broken Monster.

August 6, 201412 yr "Stanton has hit one through the monster!" "Is that a dong hole? ...wait. Sorry, FCC"
August 6, 201412 yr FWIW, Jennings has said he's not available and that he will be sitting down with him to negotiate a LTC this off-season.
August 6, 201412 yr FWIW, Jennings has said he's not available and that he will be sitting down with him to negotiate a LTC this off-season. That probably just means that the Marlins will put a joke offer on the table and off Stanton goes.
August 6, 201412 yr Not sure why "fans" are shocked by the this. Time to realize the Marlins waited to long to get this done. They aren't paying the money that Stanton will earn. They'll throw a low ball low year offer out there to "save face" which Stanton will respectfully decline and soon after he'll be traded. Whether to Boston or anywhere else its going to happen so prepare yourself.
