The Dodgers just got Craig Kimbrel in exchange for AJ Pollock. There's no way the Marlins couldn't have made a better offer if they'd tried, but I'm sure Ng never even called the White Sox since they were probably looking for a team to take on all of Kimbrel's contract.

$16m is a lot of money for 60 innings.

If they have $16m they should have signed Tepera and D. Duffy and shot for 150 combined innings and NOT traded something for Kimbrel.

We have many things to bitch about, Kimbrel isn't one of them.

It's easy - spend money to make money.

This.  You gotta give fans a reason to get fans in the seats

And they don't even need to spend $100m, they can just trade for Reynolds and talk about a 180 flip of morale. No one is angry if he sucks. They did something fun and exciting (that makes sense on paper) and tried. Now do this over and over, and you have a business model.

It seems so simple yet they don't do it.

They say they have money to spend and they want to win, but when the same glaring roster issues from last season are still not addressed, all those pre-lockout transactions mean nothing unfortunately.  And it's not just fan base morale getting a boost, think of how the Marlins players will respond knowing that Sherman & Co are going out to get players to make them close to the same level as the Phillies, Mets & Braves

As much as i love piling on, im ok not seeing kimbrel here as much as i saw him the last few years

Saw an interesting post on Twitter yesterday... All the Indians did was replace IN (dians) with GUAR (dians)

How many years is the deal for though? If he's signed only through this year then yes they should have made that trade. I'd even argue it would be worth it If he's on a two year deal. Gotta realize that even if he does make 16mil it's not like Sherman is losing money on the team. It's their fault for not spending it better when other arms were available. This would have made the Marlins a better team and the trade should have been done.

1/$16 I believe.

Way too much money for 60 Kimbrel innings. If they are gonna spend, do it right. They could get a lot more mileage out of that elsewhere. That's all I'm saying

True, but that ship sailed and this was really the only impact late inning guy they could realistically acquire.  Still, its one year so who really would care in the end.

But Sherman will in no way spend that kind of money.  If he wouldnt spend 8 million for a bullpen guy no way will his cheap ass spend double that.

16 million less for Sherman to put into his pocket though, tbh.

Kimbrel has been brutal the last few years. He would have given me Heath Bell vibes. Granted this bullpen is a hot garbage so who knows

Bullpen was top 10 in baseball last year. Every fan base hates their bullpen besides Tampa. Every one.

The bullpen issue to me is Floro is hurt, Cabrera is not in it, what are our thoughts on Meyer coming up in 3 weeks, and Sixto is hurt

You add those four to Bender, Pop, Bleier, and Okert and now we're talking. Rain fire. Multiple innings for Cabrera/Meyer so they get to 125+ in quasi starter/bulk reliever manners. I know Sixto is hurt, but they can literally have that awesome bullpen in mid-April after Meyer's service time is manipulated (shhh).....

And if you trade Eury, Bleday, Sixto, Salas, Fitterer, and Jerar for ....... Reynolds and Bednar.... throw Bednar in for Sixto and again. Rain fire.

Floro, Bender, Bednar, Cabrera, Meyer, Pop, Bleier, and Okert. It's like the best bullpen in baseball. Just like that.

yeah that was my point.  who cares if it costs him 16mil?  it's not like he's spending it elsewhere on the team and it was a one year deal so there's no long-term impact to finances and if he's lights out and the Marlins have no shot at the deadline he could probably even be traded for another prospect for sherman to hoard.

Isan Diaz has cleared waivers (no other team wanted him, obviously) and will report to Triple-A Jacksonville. Meaning he's still just one roster move away from getting more major league at bats with the Miami Marlins!
