Don's idea: "Right handed batter coming up, let me bring in the right handed pitcher." Skip's idea: "I'm gonna bring in Nardi who has been very good lately." Don's result: probably a run scoring and a new pitcher in the 6th. Skip's result: double play + another inning out of Nardi. Down one in the 7th. Don's idea: "We're losing so who cares who comes in? Get someone some work." Skip's idea: "Barnes has been decent. Maybe not the best but he'll probably keep us at 1." Don's result: Probably now down 3 and two more pitchers used. Skip's result: Barnes wasn't perfect and even gave the Giants an extra out by missing the base but he got through and kept it at 1. These little things add up so fast!! Yeah, it did seem like that'd happen a lot too - Don would throw in the towel and allow 3-4 more runs to be given up. And then we'd come back and wind up being 1 run short, and if we'd kept it close, we'd have won.

April 18, 20233 yr Getting closer to the 5/6 game in Chicago! I'll be the guy in a Conine jersey getting beat up by 27 people
April 18, 20233 yr I saw where the Twins extended Pablo. Funny thing is that one of the reasons we traded Pablo is because we couldn't extend him and his agent wanted to go to FA. I guess that was just a negotiation ploy. $18 million a year is a little steep but that's the market.

That said - we have to extend Arraez, right now.

I mean if you are going to be given a contract Pablo was just given...its kinda hard to turn that deal down tbh. Marlins probably offered something like 4 yrs/ 32 mil or something. Id have said nah i'm good as well.

There are a lot of random tidbits or whatever that don't really warrant their own thread, but you want to mention them, and this thread is perfect for it. Bascially an in-season catchall thread like the offseason thread. 57 minutes ago, Rydawg said: I saw where the Twins extended Pablo. But throw enough money at a guy, he's willing to forgo waiting for FA.

Why wouldn't he want to stay here? Assuming a fair offer of course. He was traded because he had the most value of our available starting pitchers. Never once heard that he was being traded for not agreeing to an extension.

That wasn't the main reason, but it did factor in. We tried to extend him around the same time we extended Sandy and his people refused. They stated that they wanted to try FA since they weren't that far away. Now, I assume the Marlins didn't offer anywhere near what he got so there's that. I do agree that he had the most trade value outside of Sandy. However, had they extended him, he probably doesn't get traded.

But I will have to respectfully disagree. Guys like Brinson, Alfaro, Lewin and Isan Diaz and others caused me and many others, I would assume so much annoyance and stress during their Marlins tenure. Having any of those guys back would just be like taking 10 steps backwards. Marlins need to shrug off that terrible time in their history of post-2017 Jeter/Mattingly seasons and move forward with the new Skip Schumaker era. Hopefully brighter days ahead.

You realize we're throwing out a hypothetical "Brinson > Garcia" scenario out there right? Not actually advocating to bring Brinson back....

April 24, 20233 yr I feel like Severino threw a subtle jab at Brinson during the broadcast Saturday when discussing that it's nice to have Jazz in CF and feeling like he's getting it done. He was discussing how CF has been complete shit as of late for us but instead of saying just the last few years after Marte as most of us do, he went back to the start of the rebuild which means he was thinking of guys like Brinson and Harrison and I was like...

Thing is, their defense was really good from what I remember. The Sanchez experiment out there was a choice but like. Jazz is kinda hitting like Brinson so far this year. Lol. Defensively though, all solid.

Yeah, defense wasn't really the problem for any of them (except maybe Sanchez since he was learning just like Jazz). But Jazz isn't hitting this year either. We need him to right the ship.
