  1. The curse of the no-no from a rookie pitcher
  2. Among the 5 best in RZR (Revised Zone Rating), among all shorts in the Majors thus far. Check it out: http://www.hardballtimes.com/thtstats/main...DESC&page=1 And for those who don't know what RZR is: Revised Zone Rating is the proportion of balls hit into a fielder's zone that he successfully converted into an out. Zone Rating was invented by John Dewan when he was CEO of Stats Inc. Considering he was labled the worst fielding short in baeball by the Fielding Bible folks last year, I definitely consider this to be "making strides". :cool Go speed!
  3. Freddi disagree with most of you: MIAMI -- If you just take a look at his stat line, it would seem like Jacque Jones hasn't done well since being acquired by the Marlins. Since signing with Florida on May 23, the 33-year-old outfielder is hitting at just a .107 clip (3-for-28) with two RBIs and no extra-base hits. But watching the games and seeing how hard Jones has been hitting the ball, you can tell the left-handed hitter is just running into some bad luck. "I know a lot of people talk about, 'Oh, he's hitting a hard .150,'" manager Fredi Gonzalez said, "but he's literally hit that -- a hard [.107]." Jones was in the starting lineup on Saturday, filling in to give Jeremy Hermida a rest. Jones was in right field and hit in Hermida's usual No. 2 spot, while Cody Ross manned center field and hit seventh. Gonzalez doesn't like tinkering with the lineup, but since the Marlins were facing right-hander Bronson Arroyo, Jones' left-handed bat was an asset. "Keep swinging -- keep putting him in the lineup," Gonzalez said about his approach to dealing with a batter who has run into a stretch of bad luck. "You just keep putting him in there. Literally, wherever he's hitting the ball, it's been hit hard. He's been hitting the ball hard the whole time he's been here. "Guys that have been around enough time, they'll eventually hit."
  4. I personally could care less, to be honest. I rarely even watch the Overrated Popularity Contest Exhibition Game...oops... I mean All-Star Game. I'd probably watch if every player was deserving to go. But the fact that a guy like Griffey is among the leaders for the OF'ers in votes this year is a joke. And I also think it's a joke for every team to have a representative. They should just call it the Fans Game, instead. But dooD, WS home field advantage is on the line!!!!
  5. Jacobs just vowed that he'll get out of his slump and carry his team back to another 1st place ride
  6. Im all for moving Amezaga as catcher before moving Willingham there.
  7. Its a great pick. experts say he should move through the minors very quickly I wish we could have been one spot up and got Buster Posey, because he will be a legit. player whose a good catcher. But I like this pick, kid has a ton of potential. For that we would had to let the Mets reach the playoff.
  8. we need a veteran pitcher that can throw more than 6 innings, hell a complete game would be nice everynow and again. What's a complete game? Have you ever seen one from this team for the last year?
  9. We could use him for two or three seasons until the dominator is ready. :lol ...and you criticize my knowledge for baseball? Cantu gets heavily criticized for his defense at 3B...ever seen Bill Hall out there? Not special, by any means. Not to mention, the "great" Bill Hall, who "we could use for the next 3 years," has a .293 .OBP this year, and a career .318 .OBP, with a career .OPS under .800... So, cool...lets replace Cantu with a player who's similar to Cantu, despite the fact all this board does is criticize Cantu. Sort of reminds me when you were all happy when we signed Jacque Jones...remember that? I'm saying if the Marlins sign him, we could use him until Matt Dominguez is ready.Bill Hall sucks, i'm aware of that.If we signed him for only two seasons he wouldn't cost us that much total. Why, what's wrong with Cantu? Is he disable?
  10. So their arm finally fell off. lol
  11. Trade him before his market value start dropping.
  12. 97 no doubt. It you mean the whole playoff, then its pretty even. Gotta love that Cubs series.
  13. How is it possible to overuse the whole rotation and the bullpen at the time?
  14. Hanley's not going to arbitration, he's going to sign a 78 year deal. We'll take him into his early 100's then :thumbup At age 100, he probably still puts up 5+ homers and 20+ RBI to go with a couple stolen bases and a respectable .220 batting average. We won't be around to see him break the all time HR record by then. At least I'll still be 50 when he breat the all-time hits though.
  15. What about yellow?
  16. The Bleacher is fun, it even have their own wikipeida page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bleacher_Creatures Just be a man and take the Bleacher. :thumbups
  17. Just have Nolasco learn the screw ball, problem solve.
  18. Well Steinbrenner Jr. wanted me to do something about this 10-10 start. :cool
  19. The Pirates are pretty much the prime example for anyone to argue why building a brand new stadium to a generally loathed/cheap front ownership group will not magically increase fan attendance at games. You have to contend too. If you make the playoff, they will come during the next season.
  20. "Sending Olsen back out for the eighth would have been the old-school play. Lift him if he runs into trouble, but not until then, especially considering the alarming way the Marlins' bullpen has been overworked so far." a 1 run game is a little too uncomfortable especially if the bullpen have to pitch with runners at 2nd and 3rd and the top of the lineup are up, if it fail, it will force a Fire Freddi thread being created here.
  21. Can you say over react? my goodness people, one bad start..... Most of the pitchers getting criticized this year, including Nolasco, are getting it because they have a track record over the last year of not being very good. Therefore it isn't "one bad start" but a continuous string of them. He only start 4 games last year, being affected by injuries and being rusty.
  22. Just like Tommy said in the game. Freddie doesnt want to be flip flopping Uggla from 2nd to 6th. Amezega doesnt play everyday and who else would u bat 2nd when Amezega isnt in the lineup? I understand the problem, but it doesn't mean that Uggla should be left hitting 2nd into eternity. The bottom line is that Uggla will have around 30 hrs and 40 doubles this year with a barisp of .190 and I'm scared to know what his actual BA may be. He is the least 2 hitter that there ever was. This isn't a criticism at all of Uggla, whose jersey t-shirt I own, but where his manager places him in the lineup, which has been hurting this team since last year's all-star break. He is the quintessential 5,6 hitter. I don't have an answer for who should bat 2nd when Alfredo doesn't play because it's not Cody Ross. So I guess I'm in favor of having Alfredo play every day. His Luis-like abilities with Uggla slugging 5th or 6th will make the lineup deeper. And if Alfredo doesn't hit lefties, from the right or left, he still won't be that much worse than Uggla in terms of BA and OBP, which the 2 hitter is supposed to excel at. Maybe when De Aza comes back he can play every day and hit 2nd. But I guess the real point here is that the whole thing will be moot once messiah Maybin comes up to the bigs. You don't have to put Amezaga htiing 2nd for the rest of the season. There no rule stating you can't change the lineup when a lefty pitch tomorrow. :thumbup
  23. Too bad the Marlins didn't pay him more or else he could have been "our guy" for 2008. I think it's time to update that sig. No way, that sig should stay there forever for memory of Jorge Julio. (April 2007 - April 2007)
