I will be attending the Redskins-Giants game
For those that do not know, Sean Taylor will be inducted as the 43rd member of the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame on Sunday and I will be attending the game and ceremony. I know alot of you are Canes fans and were devastated by his murder last year so i will make the following deal with anyone who wishes to participate. I know they are going to have a memorial section for people to leave notes for the family. If any of you wish to post a thought here i will make sure it is delivered to that memorial section at FedEx Field on sunday.

Yankee's offer C.C. $140 million
back on topic of the mindset of CC. I think he said that money would not be the number one factor in his decision. I like CC but this will test whether I continue to like him b/c he is in a position now to look really good or really bad. If he chooses the yankees and their big $$$$ he looks like a hypocrit and if he spurn their offer, he looks like a hero that sticks by his word and money isnt the only important thing. Lets face it, the guy is gonna be filthy rich either way but it will be a matter of personal values that determines what type of guy he is.

GM Admin BEINFEST/MICHAEL HILL
I think it might be important to credit MLBtraderumors.com as this is their list that they posted yesterday. I will give you credit for the most recent trades and the FA signings though. If everyone wants a professional style site, we should credit those who do the original work. Just my two cents.

Kevin Gregg Traded to Cubs
Cubs also want Hermida. The Cubs wont move on Hermida till the situation with peavy is worked out. I am guessing the same prospects would be involved. Obviously not as many of them if they went after hermida as it would take to get Peavy. I have a feeling alot of things are hinging on the Peavy situation. Back on topic: Overall i am happy over this one. Good riddance to an overachieving douche

Trade suggestion (NOT A RUMOR)
OK...GET THIS THROUGH YOUR HEADS... READY? OK! EMILIO BONIFACIO IS NOT (NOT!) A STARTING 2B IN THE BIG LEAGUES! EMILIO BONIFACIO IS NOT A 1ST HITTER...HE WILL NEVER BE A 1ST HITTER...THE 1ST HITTER WILL BE CAMERON MAYBIN, AND YOU WILL LIKE IT. Got it? Also, while Kemp is a nice player, we need a 2B more than we need an OF'er. Bonifacio is a guy who can become a nice utility player, if all pans out. Nothing more, nothing less. First off, No one on these boards knows Jack about what this team is gonna do and throwing tantrums isnt very becoming. Secondly, I agree that Maybin will probably be the leadoff hitter but nothing the team does will suprise me. Finally I am of the opinion that the FO probably knew they were gonna get roasted by the media and fans as dumping salaries in willy and olsen and to counteract that they said that they are keeping Uggla. All the while they are gonna trade him but saying that lets other teams know they arent going to sell Uggla cheap. It is going to take an offer of monsterous proportions to get Uggla away from here but I am of the opinion that its gonna happen. Again I am sure I am wrong and I am ok with that because I know that I am as in the dark as every single person on this board is.

Will Uggla Remain With The Fish?
HMMM FO leaks out that Uggla is staying put. This news cause teams that were banking on him being available to put together packages that we cant refuse. By saying he isnt available we are going to get ourselves the package we want. Good business decision is all that it is. I think Uggla will be moved very soon and that opens the door for a FA pickup somewhere.

Why Do We Do It?
I dont know about you guys but I would rather win a world series every 6 years and lose in between then have a team that consistently wins the division and craps out in the playoffs AKA the Braves. I think that every front office in the history of the game has made some bad moves but in the Marlins case, Those guys are genius's. In Beinfest I trust. I will not comment on the Fla-Dc trade until after the offseason is over. There is something else in the pike.

Will Uggla Remain With The Fish?
I will copy and paste what i just wrote in the wrong topic: I dont believe for a second the talk that Uggla is staying. With the trade out of nowhere to Nats, of all teams, I am really thinking that there are really only 3-5 people Max knowing about the personel decisions in the franchise this offseason. I think the obvious players in the FO knowing this are obviously Loria, Beinfest, and the GM. The scouts probably know but with the ammount of player info requests they get they can only guess which ones are truly being discussed. With that said, the reports that came out last night that Uggla was staying are suspect, at best. I think with everything that has happened in the last 24 hrs, we are all just as in the dark as the next person. Regardless of your knowledge of the Marlins, nothing should suprise any of us from here on out. This lack of true rumors regarding the Marlins so far has cemented my belief that the franchise is extremely jaded by the media after the Manny to FLA rumors at the deadline. An 80-20 rule may be in effect: 80% pure BS as far as rumors are concerned and 20% True stuff. Either way its alot of "Smoke and Mirrors" so far IMO. This is why I am reserving my comment on the Fla-DC trade. Something else is in the pike people, mark my words. Either way its a smart way to operate by the franchise.

Informative and Fun Activity
I was wondering if anyone out there would be willing to start a quick rolling tab of what payroll is looking like and what we might be lokking at as far as potential free agent pickups i.e. what we might be able to afford based on a rolling tab of money to spend. The following factors would have to taken into consideration: 1. That the Payroll for the team will be 38-40 million dollar range(based on published reports) 2. We aren't doing what ifs here, all i am looking for is basically a rolling tab of money to spend. 3. We use our best estimates on what our current players will be making next year. (obviously a large chunk of possible payroll was taken out of the equation by trading Jake) 4. We have fun with this and try not to argue over arbitrary things like whether we think someone will be back. I don't care if Gregg and whoever else are supposed to be traded, lets keep the numbers in line as if they are going to be until the aren't 5. That we start it as of yesterday and account for the money Jake would have gotten and show the difference today as he is gone. The purpose for this is to see if there could possibly be enough money to acquire someone we arent expecting and to also keep a rolling tab on how things shake out with payroll. I would do this myself but there are certainly more knowledgable people out there that can do a better job and would, frankly, enjoy doing it more than me. Have fun guys.

Jacobs Traded to Royals
I know that technically teams can't sign free agents that played on other teams last season till November 15th but can trades be done at any point now? Thanks in advance for helping me out on this one. Well the news answers my own question. thanks anyways

More Serious Trade Talk
What makes you think they will all be here in spring training? That would be opposite Loria's commitment to losing.I'm surprised he is keeping the manager.....how dare he win and cost him more in salaries!!! Mark my words..........the Marlins will NOT have another winning season in the near future!!! Loria's beginning to remind me of the owner in the movie Major League. Up until recently, I have been VERY supportive of the Marlins and have posted messages to that end but, when I hear of the upcoming "sell off" of this team, yet again, I'm wondering why I even bother being a fan. If they would keep this team together and stay on this course, I would be fine with it. But,spending a mere 22 million last year and a possibility of it getting into the $30 million range this year seems like its too much to ask from Loria. Loria wants this team to win more than anything, and to say otherwise is extremely ignorant. Yes, he has a track record of being cheap. But he also has a track record of putting this team in the best position to win while staying within the means of his business; remember, this IS a business. He has shown us over and over, when the team shows progress he will dip into his pockets a little and bite the bullett. Going into '03, he needed to make an impression on this fanbase and we had a talented roster heading into the season. What happened? Pudge Rodriguez comes in (which this website knew before the entire baseball world... if you old-school board members remember) and we win a championship. Then, he made the commitment to keep that nucleus around for two more years, also adding Delgado in '05, while he lost money (maybe not as much as he said, but he did lose money) and this team clearly underperformed. After two years of major losses from a team that certainly underperformed, I actually think they made the right move by making the deals they did. I think the rest of baseball could learn from some of the methods of this franchise. Sometimes, you just need to cut your losses and start over again. If a team like the Yankees could ever just learn to let the public chill out for two years and not let ego get in the way, they could save themselves a lot of money and a lot of losses by maybe building up the way we have since '06. I think this franchise, heading into 2009, is possibly in the best position it has ever been in heading into any season. We have massive talent, plenty of which is expendable, and a farm system that has never been this strong or balanced. You can be pesimistic all you like, but I for one am very optimistic. As long as this team performs, Loria will commit. If they don't, he won't stand around and lose millions. Here's to hoping for 90 wins. Here Here! I haven't read jibberish like that in months on this board. Great retort. That really sounded like the musings of a drunkard rather than a well conceived thought. I am with ya on the Loria bandwagon. Up until recently I haven't been but the man has a business to run and those that think it is his resposibility to lose money for the sake of entertaining empty seats which he pays lease on regardless if they are filled or not, really have no concept of the business model in the simplist forms. Furthermore, its irratating to read negative posts when this should be one of the most exciting offseasons in team history. If people can't understand that the players we bring into camp next year are being brought in to make a realistic run for ring number three, then shame on them.

One scout's view on Marlins trade bait.
This sounds like a load of crap to me. It reminds me of some analysis's (sp) that we have seen some of our younger posters write on here. There is no way that we have that much baggage on this team. Beinfest and the rest of the F.O. deserve way much more credit than this scout is giving them.

Cody - #8 CF in the ML?
http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2008/10/1...-fielders-of-20 Here's an article which calculated the top CFs, accounting for both offense and defense. A lot more statistics went into this analysis than just errors, steals, HR, etc. And the end result is that Cody Ross is the #7 CF in the majors, better than McLouth, Mike Cameron, Matt Kemp and others. Barring a surprise, I do see Maybin starting in CF, but Cody's number on defense probably would only rise if he plays a corner spot. Bottom line, despite a low OBP and high K's, a lot of his other numbers must look really good. Should he be the frontrunner to start in LF, even if Hammer and Hermida stay? I have a hard time arguing otherwise, given this information. Also, I'm not running to trade away the farm in order to get a McLouth, who's less than a year younger and also a defensive liability. I think a majority of people on these boards, myself included, think Cody is deserving of a starting spot in LF or RF next season depending on what the team does in the next few months.

Russell Martin Available???? GO GET HIM
I have read that he is available from a few different places. Whether it is true or not remains to be seen. At any rate, the asking price would be ridiculously high. The catchers market is so bad right now.

Uggla Trades
BTW I think we need to seriously look at the lineup and make our suggestions from there. This team desperatly needs a #2 hitter. I assume that maybin is the CF next year and going by the past posts on the board the lineup would look like this: 1. CF Maybin 2. ? 3. SS Ramirez 4. 3rd or 1st Cantu(might be placed in 5th spot depending on what we get) 5. ? 6. C Baker (I think hes earned it) 7. RF Ross (yup i think Hermida is done here. I think it was evident when we were gonna get rid of him for a 2mo. rental of Manny.) 8. 2nd Coghlan 9. P So with this laid out, we need a LF, 1st or 3rd basemen (I will believe we hand the 1B keys to Sanchez when it happens)

Uggla Trades
This is very speculative, but I suspect they would get an "A" level starting pitching prospect in AA or above, a decent 2nd prospect, and a third piece that is a nominal player (bench, bullpen). This is basically asking San Francisco for Aldersen or Bumgarner, someone else I can't think of off the top of my head, and someone like Hinshaw (RP) from their pen. That would be pretty tremendous. I believe this trade is workable, however, with Cain being dangled, how likely do you think the prospects would be let go? Also, would these guys be ready for next year because the emphasis is on competing next year? Uggla for Cain is 1-1 Aldersen or Bumgarner would be 2010 versions of Volstad. They need a year and a half minimum. The other guys who knows what else they would go for. This is what frustrates me. I love Dan Uggla. but so many people seem to hate him or want him replaced with Coghlan and call Uggla a bonehead. But, we think his trade value is very high. That being said, these trades would be pretty nice. I do like the Cain addition. the 2010 guys would be nice if we were just salary dumping, If the emphasis is on being ready to compete by the time the stadium is built and not next year, then i make the prospect deal. I think the majority of people like Dan, myself included. They are just realistic that with the FO statements about getting back to defense and speed as well as Dan's Extremely high value right now. Its better to cut ties with him now and see what we might get with him now rather than the chance his value drops for whatever reason. I actually commend the board for the mature disscussion on trading Dan because there seriously has been some silly junk proposed on these boards in past offseasons.

Buster Olney on SportsCenter
I really doubt Olsen stays though. I mean he hasent been so great with this orginazation. I like the guy he's probably my fav pitcher on the team but with all he's done off the field which hasen't been backed up on the field and with Miller volstad tucker and Anibal i doubt Olsen stays and is probably traded for that Young catcher were looking for Yeah I agree that he probably hasnt lived up to expectations but he has been our most reliable pitcher the past 2 or 3 season and there is a helluva lot to be said for reliability ever since Girardi left with the pitching staff's elbow ligaments in a suitcase. I think we can all agree that Scotty O. has matured alot this past season and actually looks willing to learn. I project a big season from him where ever he is hurling the ball.

Alaska Panel Finds Palin Abused Her Authority
As James carville said the other night "You can call the dogs in, wet the fire, and leave the house. The hunt is over." There is no recovering from this one. The Independant voters will be begging for the election to be held tomorrow. I just cant see how this can be fixed.

The Second Debate
I thought the questions were unoriginal. Very predictable, aside from the last couple questions of the night. OT: What the hell is wrong with McCain's arms? Am I the only one realizing his really awkward arm movements? He looks like a robot when he moves his arms. It is a result of having his shoulders broken due to torture while in the Vietnamese POW camp. They broke them at the beginning and they healed wrong.
