  1. i think the helms signing boiled down to money. he had like a 900K buyout left over from the phillies contract, and we got him for that plus about nimum for 2 years. not bad for a vet who can still play a little bit. (ducks bullets...........)
  2. Yeah, and remember Wiley has some history with Willis. There was even speculation before last year's trade that Wiley would be the coach DW needs.
  3. Good job, Mike. But - that host really did not want to talk Marlins - you tried at the beginning with the pitching analysis, but he funnelled you to the Dolphins right away, Se la vie - again, nice job!
  4. I have never bet on baseball, but anyone who laid down anything substantial in Vegas on the Rays to take it all is going to make out like a bandit. 150 to 1 odds? Some bookies will be going to the soup kitchen when this is over. For every $ bet on TB, I'm sure there was 1000$ on the NYY. Income on TB 1 Payout on TB 150 Income on NYY 1000 Payout on NYY 0 Bookies always win - you do the math.
  5. And you think he'd play for the minimum? Dream on..................
  6. Speaking of teal & orange, years ago golfer Payne Stewart used to wear NFL colors when he played near a NFL city. So he was playing in Orlando, and wore a god-awful combination of aqua knickers and orange shirt. The commentators really gave him hell about that. Bottom line - aqua (or teal) & orange don't match. Signed, Mr. Blackwell
  7. WOW - the rainout was on May 15. Looks like they would've scheduled the makeup earlier in the year.
  8. OK people ? it?s that time of year again! Saturday 9/20 is the annual ?Jerseys Off Their Backs? raffle at Dolphin Stadium. For a mere $5 donation (or 5 for $20), you can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to win an authentic, game-used, autographed Florida Marlins jersey! This year's jerseys are ? Amezaga, Cantu, Gonzo, Hermida, LoDuca, Jacobs, JJ, Ricky, Olsen, Shadez, Ross, Treanor, Uggla, Volstad, & Hammer. There will be 15 raffle stations - at all gates, & on the 100, 200, and 400 levels. All proceeds benefit the Marlins Community Foundation and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. You can buy raffle tickets in advance at the Community Foundation booth near Sec 149 THU & FRI if you aren?t going Saturday. You need not be present on Saturday to win. Pitch in and buy tickets ? it?s for a good cause - you could be a winner! Good luck!
  9. If I purchase thru ticketmaster, what is the latest date/time I can do the transaction? I will be able to print it the time of purchase (but not today due to company internet access restrictions). I do not want to use Will Call. I may not have internet access until Friday around noon - is that too late? Alternatively, if anyone has an extra ticket, please PM me. The cheaper the better. Thanks.
  10. He does get caught stealing - a lot.
  11. Back in the late 60s, I recall the vaunted NYY announced a crowd of 413. That's right - four hundred and thirteen. It was like a rainy Thursday afternoon during the "Horace Clarke Years".
  12. Oh, and I forgot - for the D. Find Perry Hill and bring him back. Assuming his family issues allow his return.
  13. Talking 2009, I really think we've got to improve the D. Of the tradable guys going into arbi, Uggla has the most value. I'd like to see us get a RP and a LF for him. Both can be rookies wth high ceilings but so far unproven. Jake will be gone, so I like Cantu at 1B if he's affordable. Coughlin at 2B should be a defensive upgrade. 3B, Dallas will be mediocre in the field but make up for it from the plate. LF, new guy for Uggla who can field and hit > .260. Hammer is as good as gone. CF, Maybin. Hope he's ready = Sept call-up will be interesting. RF, I'd like to see Cody. He's good on D, as well as offense. C - no idea. Get lucky with a re-tread, waiting for Skip in 2011. SP is intact - may lose Olsen if offers are decent. RP has some depth, if healthy and not over-used. Add an arm or two and bye-bye Gregg.
  14. I guess we should have expected make-up calls for Livan circa October 1997.
  15. I'd do it - PM me if you're in / near Palmetto Bay / Cutler Bay & want to share the ride & cost. I usually want to go Fri / Sat / maybe Sunday.
  16. I heard once that cycles are less common than no-hitters. Above seems to bear that out.
  17. Olsen 3,000,000 Miller 350,000 Next question.
  18. Hey - you are the batting coach, right? What kind of situational hitting are you teaching anyway? Shadez on third in the 8th with no one out - infield in - all we need is a freakin flyball to tie & what do we get? Weak grounder K (looking) Fly ball (too late!) I am much more upset over this than the Uggla screwup. Must score in that situation. The ghost of Bill Robinson haunts this club. (End rant)
  19. Some/most already have their tix, so sitting together won't work for all. Pre-game in the parking lot would be a good idea - Need to break up in time to get your MJ17 jersey! "Hello - My Name Is marlin2266"!
  20. I'd pull the trigger. Lindstrom is (probably) arbi-eligible, and I don't see us giving him the $2MM it will take to re-sign.
  21. 97 03 That is all.
  22. Just a heads up - This Saturday is the annual baseball equipment drive. There will be stations at most gates to drop off your used gloves, balls, bats, caps, batting helmets, etc.... Last year they went to the local Boys Club, and probably the same this year. So bring out your old stuff and make a youngster happy - this Saturday vs. the Phillies. GO FISH!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. Obviouly, we are all thrilled that he is back & looking great again. Is he arby eligible after this season (considering he missed over a year in TJ recovery)?
  24. For one night, against Atlanta, Joe Strong was King Kong...it was a truly beautiful and miraculous thing. His father cried. His manager cried. Preston Wilson cried. I did too. I remember it like it was yesterday. Yeah - good ole Joe Strong - the guy could sure sweat like.......... well, like Scotty Olsen!
