I mean, to be fair, it's hard to take anything you say seriously when you were mad that the Marlins didn't re-sign Hampson because he can bunt.

You said SilverBullet assumed that Bendix was the sole reason the Rays were good (which he didn't, simply stated the Rays have been better the last few years, which they have been). Bendix has been part of that, which is why it's a good thing to have him around as he brings that experience over.

 

You then made the comparison based on YOUR assumption of an assumption that "Bendix being the reason the Rays were good was like saying Trout and Ohtani made the Angels bad." Again, that is a bad comparison. Trout and Ohtani do not construct rosters. They are part of the roster. Bendix DOES have roster construction control. So, he can absolutely be credited with some success for the Rays (and will / should be credited with the success or failure of the Marlins). If that was what SB even meant in the first place.

 

Some pieces may be moved out and payroll may go down a little, sure. Does not mean it's a full on rebuild. If it was, I'm preeeetty sure we'd have seen something indicating that. Thus far, he's actually added players (Brujan, Faucher). Are they great? Probably not. But no subtractions yet except for Stallings, Wendle, Hampson - no huge losses. Bendix is looking to add a shortstop and two catchers, at a minimum. We will have to move pieces for that. And that is ok.

 

It's also ok to want to build a "sustainable" team and not have it immediately he equated to a fire sale just because that's what Jeter's front office said and did. Jeter's group (and this includes Kim) made some bad moves - drafting was abysmal - it's bad when Nick Fortes is the best of the drafted players from that crew. Free agent signings mostly awful. Half of the trades were trash. I will credit them, as many have, for acquiring via trade Sandy, Arraez, Burger, Bell, Gallen and then Jazz, Luzardo, Scott (after a season) and so on. For finding Eury. Those were all good.

 

We have to see what Bendix and co will do now. They want to draft better, which as previously mentioned, is needed. That's good. Letting Soler go isn't the worst thing in the world. 36 homers, sure. And, that's about it. Him off the roster opens up some exciting possibilities for the construction of the roster. Which Bendix has control of! They're getting that group situated and I'm excited to see what they do. I will be the first to admit they've done poorly if that ends up being the case.

That did help quite a bit. And Rendon being solid for a long while. Storen was good. Soto. Etc. They found some good players.

The Scherzer signing was a better sign that they were serious, I think. Werth was the "overpaying too early" signing to get the team from the basement to being more competitive quicker, but that was about it.

Other notoriously cheap franchises in the last 2 decades have remained that.

If you want to shed that idea of being 'cheap' and not being a serious free agent destination thats part of what you have to do.
